The ‘rest’ of the story…

The initial story was an ‘older’ man landing an airplane after the pilot had a heart attack…

The additional details are enough to send shivers up the back of the neck…

Night, unlit panel, no landing lights…

Here is the video-

All I can say is kudos to those who assisted, and there was another presence in the cockpit that night…

  1. “All I can say is kudos to those who assisted, and there was another presence in the cockpit that night…”

    Agreed!

  2. I’ve had worse landings on puddle jumpers out of O’hare.
And it looks like they’ll be able to use the plane again with only a minimum of wrench time.

    Well done all.

    BGM

  3. WSF- Ain’t it though…

    BGM- Concur!

Skip- Especially this one, sadly the pilot didn’t make it…

  4. Heck, I’ve had worse landings in *heavies* at O’Hare… Must have had a Navy (carrier) pilot, I think I was an inch shorter after that contact with the ground…

    • I haven’t flown as much as some here but in my times as complaining cargo I’ve noticed a pattern.

ex AF pilots will give you a smoother flight and smoother landing but they will take every inch of runway.

Ex naval aviators will take off from the taxiway if they think the tower won’t notice and will treat the aircraft like a dirt track racer treats a car. But if the weather is approaching minimums for takeoff or landing I want the man on the stick to be carrier qual’d.

      One outlier.
Some years before flying into ATL just ahead of a summer storm. Pilot managed to beat the squall line to the runway and put the plane down firmly but smoother than silk and had her slowed and on the taxi way faster than I thought possible.

Former Marine. Flew herky birds in his time in a green suit apparently. His explanation was that when your cargo was a bunch of marines with full bladders and live ammo you learned to be fast and smooth.

      • I can only imagine a bunch of jetlagged Marines, strung out from the propnoise and with full bladders… grumpy would be the understatement of the decade!

  5. Rick- Yep, to walk away is great!

Scott- Those I don’t mind, it’s the squeakers then the drift toward the side of the runway that scares me…

    BGM- ALL true and agreed!!!
