Oops…

Looks like more problems for the USAF Missile folks-

Sixteen of the 34 officers cheated with answers they received by text message from another missile officer. The other 17 officers knew about the cheating and failed to report it to superiors, Welsh said.

“This is absolutely unacceptable behavior. I am profoundly disappointed,” James said.

James stressed that investigators did not believe that the cheating affected the security or reliability of the nation’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) fleet.

Now it’s a cheating scandal and OBTW, drugs too…

And these are the people LITERALLY with their hands on the button!

In other news, Gen Dempsey CJCS (who drank the koolaid) is coming under fire on Benghazi…

Gee what a surprise… He’s been toeing the adminstration’s line since he took over…

The Senate Intelligence Committee singled out Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, of exhibiting poor leadership and insufficient planning in their report on the Sept. 2012 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Bereft of leadership when it’s most needed is a pretty damning statement when you’re talking about the leader of the military in the US…

AND it’s now official USS RONALD REAGAN CVN-76 will replace the GW as the forward deployed carrier in Japan.

Full article HERE.

The crew swap is going to be interesting, especially given the differences between the carriers… It’s one thing to crew swap a small boy, but when you crew swap a carrier; let’s just say ‘I’ am glad that one is NOT one I’m involved with or want anything to do with…

And CVW-5 will stay at Atsugi…  Completing their 40th year of forward deployment in 2013…

Of course the Japanese published this last June… 🙂

And lastly, it appears House and Senate negotiators agreed to a 1 percent pay raise for military personnel, matching the administration’s request (1.8% was the recommended raise). And they included a “fix” to a controversial provision in the budget deal that decreases by 1 percent the cost-of-living adjustment for pensions for working-age military retirees. The omnibus exempts medically retired personnel and survivors from the cut, but appears to LEAVE the cut for ‘healthy’ retirees.

This one isn’t over yet… Not by a long shot…

  1. The missile crew situation has deteriorated over time as people have become complacent. I’m not at all surprised given the incestuous nature of that particular little military clique. Time for some new blood there — unlike the crew swap situation that is a goat-rope in the making.

  2. James stressed that investigators did not believe that the cheating affected the security or reliability of the nation’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) fleet.

Of course. All the missiles that were launched, hit their targets. No missiles were launched that were not supposed to be. No missiles failed to launch when they were supposed to. No missiles accidentally got taken home in a lunch box. A 100% success rate.

  3. Not fair to judge a whole service by the actions of a few. That said, I’ve had encounters with Air Force Security people, while on public land, around some of the missle silos in this part of the world. Every time, overbearing, arrogant, and out of line.

    +1 LL

  4. Many years ago I worked maintenance for 2 weeks in Atlas ICBM missile silos. I drove back & forth each day & didn’t have to bunk there. I can see why problems exist. The crew members probably thought they would become fighter, bomber, or tanker pilots. Them wham, orders to Missile School. No flight pay, days of confinement, & in lots of cases, family problems due to the absence from home. Of course that problem follows troops everywhere! Extra pay & recognition would be a start. More frequent shift changes would be a big help as well. I don’t know what, if anything will be done. We’ve moved into an era where most of our “leaders” don’t have a Military background & that’s a dam shame.

  5. MSgt- Yeah, right…

LL- You’re not the first I’ve heard mention rolling people in/out of missile duty… And yeah, it IS going to be goat rope…

Opus/Rev- yep, pointing the finger at Stevens himself!

Prof- Were they??? When you already know what the re-designate is, you can pre-can it…

WSF- Yep, kinda mirror’s ‘my’ experiences too…

    Woody- Good points.

  6. From the first article you linked… “An Air Force Inspector General’s report last month charged that Carey had been drinking heavily, fraternizing with “women” and disrespecting his hosts on a visit to Russia last year for a nuclear security exercise.”

If those are the criteria for sacking a GO then the Air Corps would have fired EVERY single general on duty in WWII, and the AF would have done the same to quite a few during Korea and Viet Nam, as well.

    BIG-ass sigh.

  7. Buck- Yeah it’s NOT the military we were in… Trust me! I couldn’t help but notice, your son was an enlisted submariner… So he is a Mustang too! 🙂

  8. I can see it now… “Insert Key!” “Ain’t gonna!” “Please!” “NO!” Air Force Discipline!
