Tired as I was, I had an offer I couldn’t turn down, so off to the range with Murphy and Proud Hillbilly today… After all, we’re supposed to fire a round at noon!!!
So we did…
Murph was good enough to bring this ‘little’ piece of history out, it’s a 1870ish NY Militia 50-70. And we all fired it! What a kick in more ways than one!!!
And the range was CROWDED!!! Including some new shooters, which is great to see!
But, I’m a tad puzzled… There were some folks there that were doing basically mag dumps of ARs and what looked like M92s… and they did it more than once…
As Murph said, if you’re shooting faster than a SWAT guy, you ain’t hittin’ s**t… Which after watching I agree with!!!
Is this a ‘new’ thing I’ve missed, or just folks that get off doing that??? ‘I’ can’t afford that, and kinda like to actually ‘aimed’ fire… Just sayin…
Oh yeah, and the ‘guard’ dogs???
Yep, they barked… until we got inside, then it was the attack of the pet me, no pet ME, dogs… And reloading the slobber gun about every 10 minutes… Pants are now covered in dog hair and slobber, but what the heck, I like the pooches… 🙂
And I’m fading fast, so I’m going to try again to get a decent night’s sleezzzzZZZZZ
Sounds like a good day! Glad you had such a great time.
“mag dumps”. Don’t they know there’s an ammo shortage?
A good night’s sleaze? Sounds entertaining! (I kid, I kid.)
Ill wager a cookie that mag dumps will be a ” thing ” that gets real common on ranges across America in the coming months .
Rev- And much better after a nap… 🙂
Ed- Obviously not, or they have WAY too much…
TDLG- LOL, nap time… 12 hours out of sync and about 4 hours of sleep…
FD- And it will CONTINUE to be stupid!
You can’t miss fast enough to do any good.
Rick- Nope, and they WERE missing at 25 yards… sigh
My department went from the Sig system back to the Glock. My elder Glock 17 has been dusted off and utilized once again from the 1990s.
For whatever reason, I shot then and shoot now better with the Glock than any other semi-auto. My overall BEST handgun scores came with my ancient Colt Python blued 4″ and full factory loads in the early 70s. Speedloaders, buddy. And personally tuned by CA Governor’s Cup champion Bill Davis when his shop was on La Grange.

Sounds like a fine day and time well spent with friends. What more can a fella ask for!! “)
So, are you a dog slobber whisperer?
In Western Washington (at least Seattle’s suburbs) the rifle ranges open to the public for the most part don’t allow rapid fire. Some say one shot per second, some say only load 1, 3, or 8 rounds regardless of mag capacity, and at a very few if the RO knows you it’s cool as long as you are keeping it on the paper. If you want to indiscriminately dump a mag you have to either be out in the mountain or a member of a few private ranges/clubs that aren’t run by fudds and willing to tolerate you.
Fantastic! Great pic of the slobber machines. Glad you had a safe trip home. What camera did you whip out for that?
Glad you made it out. And that Winchester carbine of yours shoots as good as it looks. Was a good day, indeed.
That is a fine looking rifle, made me wonder if it went to Cuba, or almost went to Cuba in the War with Spain. Not that I need another caliber to load, I would have loved to fire that one. Nice dogs, always good to be loved.
BZ- Yep, we’re old farts… 🙂 I may have the ‘new’ guns, but I likes my revolvers!!!
Bill- It was, and relaxing too!
WSF- I guess… sigh
R- Understood, and seems more and more ranges ARE going that way.
Keads- Iphone believe it or not…
Murph- It was!!!
Earl- If only they could talk… sigh… And dogs are good (for the most part)! 🙂
Sounds like a fun time was had by all.
And I’m in the “ammo’s too expensive to do anything but aim” crowd.
