  1. Yeah, car manufacturers have already stated that the fuel is bad for cars that are non flex fuel rated and will damage them – and they aren’t liable. I don’t blame them – its the gasoline.

Motorcycle mechanic told us he already is getting good business from very casual motorcycle riders who leave fuel in their bikes and have it mess up their fuel line and other other components. And the gas companies want to up the ethanol content – Yay !

When you are born stupid, its for a long time.

  2. So … the government ignores the science and facts, and mandates a product which is proven harmful. Words fail me.

  3. Short note about the post I linked to above.
Ethanol absorbs water from the atmosphere (humidity).
Ethanol (like alcohol) and water mix.
Ethanol (like alcohol) and gasoline mix.
So the water and the gasoline effectively mixes.
And won’t ignite. And my carbs need new jets now.
But the picture there is amazing.

  4. Between my wife, our kids, and myself we have five vehicles. All were made before 2012. I can just barely afford to pay gas and insurance for them. I damn sure can’t afford to buy five new cars.

I guess bicycles are in our future…

  5. j.r.- Yep, hit that nail on the head…

Rev- Do you expect better from this administration? I sure as hell don’t…

Ed- Yep, I remember that post, and I commented on it…

    Tim- Yeah, or go diesel…

  6. All of my vehicles are 1994(Ranger) 2009(Edge) and (2010) Focus. I also have a 2009 Suzuki Bergman 650. All are before 2012. They are paid for and I really don’t want to buy a “new” vehicle. I have heard of certain gas stations that will not use ethenol gas. We may have to locate those. They will cost more but it is cheaper than having to buy new vehicles or repairs.

  7. Big problem is if the ethanol is dispensed from the pump with the hope it mixes with the gasoline, or if it is blended at the refinery. Dispensed from the pump, it will cause major problems.

  8. Bob- Understood, and they ‘are’ out there, just hard to find…

WSF- Excellent point, and how long it’s been IN the tank at the pump too…

  9. Why do we need to produce ethanol when we are pulling more oil out of the ground than the Saudis? Or am I missing something?

  10. LL- Nope, you’re not missing anything other than the econazi’s desire to save the ‘environment’… Not caring what the cost to us is…

  11. I’ve built a number of boats with fiberglass fuel tanks, no problem with either real gasoline of diesel, but I have heard years ago that the ethanol in E-15 desolves the resin, wrecks the tank and destroys the engine when it tries to burn the resin saturated fuel.

  12. Found this a while back. I haven’t used it so can’t confirm any of it. There are a lot of positive comments about the stations. And it looks like most sell the ethenol free gas $0.20+/gal higher but it might be worth it for some. Also a lot of the stations are for aviation or boating.

Alternate solution: Fill up next time your in Alaska.

  13. After a little home, ah experiment, I discovered that alcohol dissolves rubber tubing. If E(anything) is being pumped through a rubber hose into your tank, you’ll get dissolved rubber in there. Now tell me which is worse, rubber or sugar, in gumming up your engine.

  14. ND I use pure gas all the time. The highest price difference I’ve seen has been $.60 per gallon traveling between TX and the Midwest. The hardest places to get it is the larger cities and/or states that has the EPA control over them.
If you’re buying it locally find out where your city/county buy their fuel. It’s usually ethanol free.
