It’s the Marines turn again… 🙂
It was done by Beck Engraving in Philly in 1942…
The only thing I could make out about the artist is I ‘believe’ it was done by Capt Guinness, apparently an active duty Marine. Â He may have been one of the artists brought into government directly and given officer rank. Â I ‘think’ this is actually an oil painting that was converted to a poster from the looks of the sky.
When you think about it, that’s high art. Well conceived and executed. It’s something I’d be proud to hang in my den —- if I was a Marine. As a Navy guy, that would be wrong.
LL- LOL, good point! And it IS one of the few I’ve seen that I believe is a painting. Sadly, nothing about the artist though.
Amazing
All of the posters you’ve put up are amazing and this one is no exception. But what about those bayonets? They don’t look like “issue” bayonets to me.
Rick- Isn’t it!
Buck- Thanks! They look like WWI bayonets… LONG!!!
Love these. Are there four or five Marines in the poster? Major Guinness did other posters as well, flying Marine posters!
Dammit- Four… 🙂 And thanks for the link!
Wonder what rifles they are holding. Not bolt action, but not quite M-1s. If the painting was done in 1941, most Marines still carried 1903s.
This surprised me:

They are representations of the M1 IMO.
I have seen pics of some long bayonets for it. And think I read that some were still issued in WWII.
WSF/Leon- I’m not sure either… Some mix??? And agree on the long bayonets.
Ed- That is interesting… Thanks!
