Cars…

An oldie but a goody…  I actually drove a Cobra back in the 60s, it was a 289 and an absolute blast!  I think the guy wanted $3000 for it if I remember correctly… sigh…

Why, other than the cars did I post this???  The tag at the end about regulation… The ‘Nanny State’ is after ANYTHING fun or ‘threatening’ (like us)…

Hopefully you’re enjoying a weekend and not sitting in front of a computer… 🙂

  1. At this point, I’m sitting in front of my computer after having spent the morning disassembling the front brakes of my elderly Jaguar. Preparing to have the master and wheel cylinders rebuilt. I have a cold IPA in a half full mug in front of me, the other half will be where the first half disappeared to in a few moments.
A month from now, the Jag’s brakes will be like new and I will be enjoying what soon will be forbidden by the spoilsports in washington. I will also have some skinned knuckles and a ravaged bank account. It’s worth it.

  2. Roger- AND you have the knowledge and acumen to do it yourself, so you’ve saved $$ and actually have something to show for the work! 🙂

  3. Once owned, briefly, an AC Bristol. The 2.2 Bristol was a clone of a BMW engine. Fun car, totally impractical and unreliable. Infected with Lucas disease. Found a bigger fool who bought it. Almost any V-8 American iron could smoke it.

    • He wasn’t the first (think Allard, Cunningham) but he did it better than anyone else. The man was a great businessman. He was also one hell of a driver.

  4. Was oldnfo.org down for a bit yesterday? I tried to comment on this post twice but the blog wouldn’t load and timed out.

My Ol’ Man nearly bought a 289 Cobra back in 1966 or so. He went so far as to explore getting a car loan after the test drive but ultimately bought a garden-variety Mustang fastback. He regretted that decision every day of his life after that. I kinda-sorta did, too, even though I KNOW he would have never let me drive the thing. 😉

  5. Amongst this weekend’s activites…adding a high level brake light to the rear window of the Camaro…..not nanny statism, but I think it a good idea.

  6. I flew a first flight on sailplane for a total of 3.0 hrs. this is after spending 2.5 years repairing and updating this late 70’s ship.

  7. WSF- Yep, and didn’t he actually drive for Cunningham?

Buck- Probably, I was having problems hitting blogs yesterday too!

Differ- Smart! And it’s a GOOD idea!

Martin- Outstanding! All that work paid off, and I’ll bet you were smiling ear to ear!!!
