How much???

Sigh…

There really ARE people that have more money than sense…

Solid Teak four poster bed with two solid teak night stands…

$4500 US!!!  And it’s not even a queen size!!!

Apparently you CAN get a queen or king made, but they are in the $6000-8000 range…

Oh yeah, you also have to buy your own mattress…  That’s just the frame and nightstands, nothing else!

That would buy me a couple of ‘nice’ guns or a lot of ammo… But that’s just me.

The hotel does have some rather interesting artwork and antiques, including Mussolini’s mirror…

It is apparently an original Biedermeirer, rosewood and inlayed.  The quality of the inlays is excellent! IMG_1777If one didn’t look closely, you’d think it’s just a painted design.  It’s not… It’s real wood inlayed.

Apparently the original builder of the hotel here was quite the collector back in England after the war, and somehow got this antique…

One wonders how it made the tourtuous trip from Mussolini and Italy to Western Australia…

And a few others…

Original artwork hanging in the halls..

And the one I REALLY wish worked at 0400 in the morning… an antique Brasilia Espresso machine…DSC01105

Yep, I was bored and wondering the halls… sigh…

  1. Hey Old NFO;

I take it your employer/organizer is fronting the $$$ for your facilities….It is pretty neat, I like to see serious craftsmanship….although I doubt I would pay for it…I can buy more guns or ammo instead. My standards are lower..as long as the sheets are clean and no bed bugs…I can pretty much go anywhere….

  2. Bob- I’m in Hiltons (mostly Hampton Inns)… Or Holiday Inns… Occasionally I find a good one! 🙂

  3. Cool hotel. I think that wandering the halls there (though you were jet lagged out of your brain) would be one of the more interesting things to do in Perth.

Ok, there is swimming with the sharks…

  4. Should be a rule in Australian hotels:
In addition to breakfast, they should serve “jet lag special” from 0200-0400.
Coffee, cinnamon rolls and bacon…or cinnamon rolls topped with bacon…or just bacon with some cinnamon sugar on it…

  5. I am having my morning coffee and see a few things that disturb me. Who would put artwork behind the top frame of the bed? I sure would feel bad scratching that wood with the handcuffs. (LOL) Who allows a rolled up 12 foot section of RG-6 wire to dangle like that from the ceiling?
Now as to the mirror. Sitting out in the hallway by the elevator? Wild placement and beautiful.

    • The art behind the bed bothered me too – why is it hung so high? FYI plush handcuffs – they don’t scratch the furniture and there’s no bruising. 🙂

  6. I think this your first post, other than kid pictures, that the girlfriend displayed more than a passing interest in.

  7. Beautiful inlay work, wow. Were you wearing teepee creepers while you stalked the hotel hallways. I can’t believe you didn’t MacGyver the expresso machine with your lighter…

  8. That’s some nice stuff they have there. Even nicer to see that it’s still safe & not vandalized. I hope the Aussies never get as bad as the ‘dregs of society’ here.

    Beautiful photos, though – thanks!

  9. If one didn’t look closely, you’d think it’s just a painted design. It’s not… It’s real wood inlayed.

Thanks for the close-up of the inlay work. It’s remarkable, indeed. You’re staying in a VERY nice place! I rarely stayed in something as nice during my time as a Road Warrior… occasionally, but rarely.

  10. Did you notice the double entendre on the mirror showing the elevator? (the EXIT). I laughed. Get it? He HAD to GO!

  11. LL- It is, built back in the 70s, and it’s been ‘upgraded’ over the years…

    MSgt- If only… sigh…

Danny/Mrs.C- That’s a display area for the furniture seller in the concourse… 🙂

SPEMack- Uh oh… it’s WAY too far for a weekend… LOL

Dammit- I had a hot pot, but ran out of coffee WAY too early… and tea sucks…

Rev- They DO take pretty good care of it, and you have to have a key card to access any other floor than the main.

Buck- Yeah, usually I’m in Hamptons… They don’t ‘quite’ have this level of decor…

    Jenn- Thanks!

Fritz- LOL, glad you caught that. 🙂 I wondered if anyone would!

  12. The term “artwork” for that thing in the hall is using the term pretty loosely.

I’m glad you arrived safely, and loved the story about the woman and her parking fee. She got what she deserved.

  13. Holy Cow! I hate to ask the nightly rate? There is a furniture store where we used to live, that has obnoxiously large prices. We saw a $9000 couch. Senior and I knew we were in the wrong spot, and walked out.

  14. Rick- Yeah…

JUGM- MILITARY rate $255/night. Regular rate $355 and up… And other hotels are just as high or higher… Holiday Inn was $305/night, no military rate.
