WWII Poster

The Marines are up this week, and this one is what I’d call a ‘combo’ poster…

WWII Marine 167th

Image from HERE.

It’s both a celebration of the 167th anniversary of the Marines and a recruiting poster…

Interestingly this was done for 1942, and shows the more modern steel helmet and M-1, as opposed to some of the others that showed Marines will the old steel pot and 03A3s…

No author is given, but somebody did a nice job of capturing this Marine in ‘action’.

  1. I like the smirk on the Marine’s face as he comes forward with bayonet fixed.

  2. My father in law was army on Guadacanal. A buddy of his wrote an account of his time there. Very interesting firsthand account. One thing that stuck with me: the marines there had been issued 1903’s. When a soldier got killed, they gave his Garand to a marine for the increased firepower.

  3. LL- Yep, he’s going to get some…

Phila- Interesting, I’d never heard that! Thanks for that bit of history…

  4. I find myself wishing the gub’mint would re-issue a few of these posters for current recruiting efforts.

  5. BUck- Yep, agreed!

Ed- Yes they are… The Navy and National Guard have really never stopped…

  6. Man,I love these old posters, keep ’em coming!
Got the book and it looks good! My wife just finished reading The Grey Man and grabbed the new one immediately and is half way thru it. Sigh, Guess I’ll have to wait my turn.

  7. Love the poster. Question the length of the bayonet. Some historical photos show long bayonets, but not that long. Artistic license?
