Not allowed to carry. Even our police “guards” have to lock their weapons up at the end of their shift. But we still get mandatory training every year about how dangerous insider threats are and what to do if there is an active shooter in the area. The current doctrine in “Cower in place”, followed by hoping the gunman shoots one of your friends instead of you.
We’ve gone from where leaders were judged on how they dealt with problems to how they don’t have problems.
I remember the feeling that the rug had been pulled out from under our feet when Carter took office. It was as if a ripple went through the massed ranks of the military, and none of us felt as secure.
I can only imagine how it must be now, with no support at all. It continues to amaze that anyone enlists at all, although I’m very glad they do.
Horrible ROEs, threats at home, cutting down the budget and the ranks… It’s getting ugly to be in the service. I just hope my soldier can hang in there until retirement bennies kick in.
Point of order: it’s only illegal to carry on a military installation (and, by extension, to and from), which is an improvement over the policy of at least two former USARAK CG’s that prohibited off-duty carry unless you were WAY back in the bush. Having said that, it’d sure be nice if’n our soldados were treated like responsible adults.
Lord help me, when I got that brief, my first thought was that with no ROE and no Hague Convention, on my turf, them goat fuckers can bring it.
Keep in mind, this Threat isn’t only against ACTIVE MILITARY, but also FORMER Military AND their Families.

When , not if, the ISIS gang of crazies show up here in the U.S., you can bet the ranch that The Ayatollah will throw them a state dinner in the White House, as well as bow down to them, like he has done with every other Third World dictator he has met. Then he will give them all full U.S. citizenship by “executive” decree. And Pelosi will probably Monica each and every one of them. On second thought, that in itself will probably stop them from slithering over here.
