Monkey or football…

Today Yesterday… DEFINITELY football… Sigh…

0800, get ‘notification’ that my original flight is CANX, moved to 1630 departure…

Get to DFW, sit for four hours…

Flight is late, meaning I’ll miss my connection…

Go to the club, the nice ladies there get me a ticket on AA, only gets in 2 hours later than the ‘later’ arrival…

Change terminals, do the bag drag…

Re-check in… And no seat…

Finally get a seat, but no airplane…

They finally drag an airplane over to the gate…

The crew gets on at takeoff time, and gets back off 20 minutes later…

And they back the jetway away from the jet… sigh… NOT looking good…

Finally deem the acft up and flyable. It’s now 1 hour after scheduled takeoff time…

So there is a rush to board. Gah, what a GRUMPY bunch of people!

Finally get boarded and back away from the gate, and we’re number 10 for takeoff… double sigh…

Yea!!! Airborne!!!

FINALLY get to SAN 2 hours late, 2130 (actually 6 hours late, but who’s counting?)

And… No rental car…

Chase up a rental, get to the hotel at 2230…

And people think this s**t is fun.

But I do have to give kudos to the FAs on AA2283, there were a group of soon to be Marines on board, going to boot camp at MCRD San Diego, and those ladies made sure all those kids (and they DID look young) got something to eat and they didn’t charge them a penny). A few of us offered to cover the cost, but they said it was on them.

  1. Well bravo for those ladies. You have such an adventurous life.

  2. That’s awesome, what the FA’s did. I bet they do it all of the time, too, because you know there’s a steady influx of recruits…

  3. I remember that flight from DFW to MCRD San Diego. BTW, MCRD San Diego is where I learned to tell what kind of airplane it was from the sound of its engines. (MCRD San Diego is right next to the runway at San Diego International Airport). Sometimes the planes were so loud you couldn’t hear the DI yelling at you.

  4. Good for the FA’s. Nice to see something good every now and then. Don’t sweat the BS of travel. You are a short-timer now. All this will add to you “war stories” to be told to the grandkids from your rocker.

  5. Just smiling and nodding.
Just another day in our lives, eh?
Travel day for me, but I got smart…
Driving a rental from San Fran to Sacramento.

drjim- One of many, no question!

    Rick/Ed- Yep, great ladies!

  7. I’m thinkin’ Dad and I should drive to Seattle.

And major Karma points to the FAs.

  8. Stretch- LOL, it would be a fun drive! Figure 4 days, and you could pick your OWN route and times…
