Found this the other day in the move…

July 21, 1969…

Rome Paper Moon Landing

We’d spent the night in a bar on Via Veneto in Rome, watching the whole thing on Italian TV. Picked this up on the way back to the pensione the next morning, and I don’t know who the wise ass was that drew the Keds on the footprint.

Somehow I’ve managed to hang on to this one and a few other ‘interesting’ papers/headlines from over the years.

  1. Seems all of us adults of a certain age remember where we were that day. I was working the ramp at Stapleton for Braniff. We watched the event on a small black and white TV in the break room. Nice souvenir. Maybe you can frame it.

  2. Nice find, and in Italian … cool. I doubt there’s anything left in our storage that we haven’t already “rediscovered” a half-dozen times over the years. But I keep hoping.

    Thanks for sharing that one.

  3. I was backstage at a rehearsal for a community theater production I was in, watching my little 5″ B&W Sony TV-500U when we landed.

All the artsy-fartsy types immediately sneered and made inane comments about “wasted money that should be given to the poor” and such, but I was elated that we’d made it down safe.

And I stayed up most of the night watching the grainy, low-bandwidth, B&W video live from the Moon.

  4. WSF- I might… Yeah, I think we all do.

    Rev- LOL

drjim- Yep, we did too! At least we had beer and wine!

  5. Mrs.C- I have about 20 of them, various headlines. I need to figure out a way to do that.
