In the WANT category… Sigh…

XKSS

I have seen ONE real one in the Goodwood Museum in England…

But it appears Jaguar is actually going to ‘finish’ the build run of nine ‘continuation’ models built on original chassis, to original specs, with correct VIN codes…

The remaining nine will now be rebuilt and sold as continuation models, each with an expected price tag of more than £1 million (approximately $1.44 million). Handling the project is the recently announced Jaguar Land Rover Classic department

Anybody got a spare $1.5M laying around they aren’t using??? 🙂

  1. Wow all for only $1.5M?

You live in Texas where a pick up truck, a lever-action rifle in the back window and a dog is the gold standard. I’m not saying that it’s better than the Jag.

  2. Still remember a bumper sticker on a Jaguar in Vancouver, B.C.
“The parts falling off this car are of the finest British manufacturer”.
Guess if you can afford one, that wouldn’t matter.

  3. Often watch those house reno TV shows.
Where the new owners whine about only having $850K.
    And they’re in their mid-20’s.
While I enjoy the shows, there are times I’m lucky to have $8.50 in my bank account.
So, I guess it’s all relative!
(If I had a million and a half, I’d buy one – after I bought a better house!)
    😛

  4. 1.5 million..that is bargain basement there! lol

  5. Nice to look at, don’t think I would want to own one.
FIL had one, cost so much in upkeep he finally traded it for new house, travel trailer, pickup, town car, and a golf cart…

  6. If’n I had such a sum, I wouldn’t spend it on a Jag. Nice to look at, but … well, you know. A new pickup, maybe.

  7. Maybe if my first and only ragtop had not been a Fiat, I might think about the Jag.
Not really, if I had that kind of cash, I would be thinking about a different metal classic. I would buy an water cooled thirty caliber Browning, and lots of canvas belts of ammo. And don’t get me started about the new kids and their newfangled disintegrating metal links. (no retro corrosive primers though)
I thought about a minigun, but I think that even a large amount of money would go downrange way fast. (it is good to have a dream)

  8. I had a 1954 MG in high school, broke me from ever wanting another British car.

  9. I believe all are already spoken for. Probably in full. In cash.

  10. All- Thanks for the comments! I’m on the road, minimal connectivity.

    Posted from my iPhone.

  11. If I had much pecos I would sooner have a M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank.
Easier to get in and out of you can always make your own parking space. 🙂

  12. Will they all come with Lucas Electrics?

I mean, you don’t need things like lights and guages and wipers and such, right? Part of the British Car Experience…..

  13. As a 26 year owner of a classic Jaguar 1954 Jaguar XK 120, I can understand many of the opinions posted above. However, not mentioned is the fact that the XKSS was and is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever made. A road legal version of the Le Mans winning D type Jag. It was the same car with a windshield and a (very) few amenities for street use. The exact same engine with rudimentary mufflers. The 16 that were made before the factory fire are prized possessions today, fetching many millions of dollars if & when they ever come up for auction. Another way to look at the new XKSS cars is as an investment. An investment that will almost certainly grow in value and that you can drive, show, and take pride in. The only downside is that you must wipe other folks drool off of your investment.

  14. A Spitfire for the highway.

If one could afford one of these, the problems of owning a older British car would not affect you as a Jaguar factory mechanic is only a phone call and plane ride away.
