I’d not heard that.
Surprised it wasn’t in the movie.
Love that P-40 “grin”.
In 5th grade I wrote an essay on Gen. Claire Lee Chennault. The more I learned of him the more I was in awe of him. The General is the very reason why his pilots were so confident and courageous and victorious. Ever since I was age 8 I have held the highest regard for Gen. Chennault and what he accomplished with those men.
Yes, I have read this story before, in fact, many times. I look forward to reading it again. I encourage everyone to read up on the exploits of the AVG.
BALLZ. Big balls. The greatest generation.
+1
Ed- This was kind of a ‘ho-hum’ another day at the office day for them…
r- Agreed!
LL/WSF- Concur on ALL counts!
20 years ago, I lived across the street from a guy who’d flown a P-38 as a member of the Flying Tigers, near the end of the war. He was as humble as anyone I’ve ever met, and said, “We just did what needed to be done.”
We’ve lost so much by losing that attitude. I pray we can still recover it.
Rev- That seemed to be the entire generation’s attitude…
Loved the American volunteers as a kid. Great story. It’s sad that today they’d be labeled “terrorists” by the UN and dealt with accordingly.
Heath- That they would… sigh
This is why they were called Tigers.
They fought with the same ferocity.
