Old School…

Well, at least for the rifles…

1942 as issued Remington 03 on the left, 1940 Model 70 on the right, also in 30.06…

An old 2X7 Redfield up top, original Pachmayr recoil pad (I still have the steel butt plate), 1907 slings on both of them. The sling on the 03 is the original one!

I only needed one round to check zero on the Model 70, as it’s going to be used next month for a deer hunt.

Now the funny thing is, everybody’s ‘eye’ is slightly different when it comes to scopes…

Lawdog and Thing 1 were both at the range, and they each put a round through it. They stacked rounds 1 in low and 1 in right of my shot (2.1 in high dead center so good zero for 200 yards).

On the pistol side, ran 150 rounds through the G19, still getting used to it. Everything went in a centered 4 inch circle at 10 yards, so I’ll take that.

Thing 1 wore the Muppet holster today, but not in front of the Sheriff (yet)…

And it fits that Glock 19 perfectly 🙂

  1. Nice shooting irons there.

Is the white on the holster going to be tough to keep clean?

Where did the holster maker source the Yeti fur?

And what does the matching magazine carrier look like?

  2. As a long time rifle competitor, I have learned that on the same day, same rifle, same ammo, just small differences in hold, position or even eye position behind the scope can and will move the bullets POI. Change position between strings or even when loading in single shot mode and you can change POI. One of the first skills learned is to maintain consistency shot to shot. Always use the same position or hold. Your hold will NOT be the same as mine and your bullets POI will probably not be the same as mine on the same weapon.

  3. Yeti fur with COLORED rhinestones!! Very nice!!
Nice pic of the rifles too…
Reminds me, we need to check the zero on our rifles too, deer season is fast approaching 🙂

  4. The muppet holster makes the pistol bleed inside of it… I hate to see firearms abused so openly…

The 03 Springfield and the Model 70 are workhorses that are both truly without peer. I was speaking to a friend about the Springfield the other day. Some weapons come together and never go out of style. That’s one – the Model 70 is the other.

  5. John- This is a one off special by Dennis Badurina of Dragon Leatherworks. There isn’t a matching mag holder, as this was originally done for a S&W 25-5 for Ray Carter (Ray was an unabashed gay and gun rights supporter).

    Roger- Exactly! 🙂

Suz- That it is…LOL Don’t want to be sitting the stand going, “Geez, I ‘knew’ I forgot something…”

LL- LOL. So true, and they still shoot POA/POI.

  6. Interesting holster, there. Nice to know there’s something for everyone. 🙂

Your post reminds me I haven’t been to the range in awhile.

  7. My dad and I had that problem. IF he sighted a rifle in, for me it would be 2 inches low and 2 inches right. And if I sighted in, it would be low and left for him. Only difference was that he was right handed, and I’m left handed. At least we were consistent.

  8. I would wear that holster IF I were going to mid-town Atlanta. I would fit right in. Especiall if I wore the pink shirt, too.

  9. That should be “high and right for him.” I really hate it when I wake up stupid in the morning. Means I’ll be stupid all freaking day.

  10. Rev- Range time is GOOD time! 🙂

    WSF- That it has!

RS- LOL, for versions of ‘consistent’… And I got what you meant! 🙂

    CP- LOL… NO comment…

  11. I have a Type 1 NM Garand , M-1903 made in 1920 and a banner Mauser. All 3006. That is the queerest holster I have ever seen. A fitting bucket for a Glock.

  12. Concur with Roger. A single rifle shot by different shooters will shoot to different point of impact. I believe that it has more to do with differing body styles, hence different recoil impulses.

But, yeah, who cares as long as we’re shooting??
