Giving…

As we come to the ‘Christmas season’, our thoughts turn to giving…

I have had ENOUGH!!!! We’ll never help anyone again……EVER!! Either I’m too kindhearted, too stupid, or too gullible!! Out of the kindness of our hearts, and because it was so cold out yesterday, we took a man into our home. We felt so sorry for him. Poor thing was trembling out in the cold, but this morning he just vanished. Not a word…not even “goodbye” or “thank you” for sheltering him!! The last straw?!?! When I realized he had peed all over the living room floor!!! That’s the “thank you” I get for being good to people?!?!?!

So, warning my friends to watch out for this man! He is heavy set, and he’s wearing nothing but a scarf and a black hat. He has a nose that looks like a carrot, two black eyes, and his arms are so skinny they look like sticks!!! Don’t bring him into your house!! What a huge mess he made on our floor!!!

All joking aside, this IS the time to remember those who have less than we do…

Two organizations I support and would ask that you support, if able, are the Salvation Army,

and Toys for Tots, run by the Marine Corps Reserve.

Both these organizations are very well rated, consistently support those in need, especially in the Christmas Season. The Red Kettles are in pretty much every major shopping center, grocery stores, etc.

The Toys for Tots can be ‘interesting’ as we learned last year. Check your local area from the home page above to find donation drop off points.

Thanks in advance, and may your donations make a Merry Christmas for someone somewhere…

  1. Just make sure the people are legit. TV News has several segments of people pretending to be collecting for organizations / causes which were later proven to be fraudulant. Taking advantage of the ‘Christmas Sharing Spirit’. The above two are great organizations.

    Thanks for the post.

  2. I’ve been helping out with Toys for Tots for years. It’s a great organization and the Marine Corps makes sure that children benefit directly. It’s one of the charities where there is no “Clinton Foundation Style” overhead.

  3. j.r.- Excellent point and the main reason I support those two.

    LL/WSF- That they are!!!

  4. Have I ever mentioned how much my inner grumpy Army officer hates/is jealous of the Jarheads with their “Toys for Tots” program?

    Grrrrr.

That being said, the Dollar General at the end of our street lets you buy a toy at the store and then donate it there. Always part of my Christmas wrapping paper stop.

  5. TFT is the one I give to each year. They are about the only ones I trust, though I do drop a little in the Salvation Army Red Kettles, too. As for giving. It is the most fulfilling thing one can do. So to fill in the giving spirit, I am giving you permission to give me all you want that will make you feel the Christmas Spirit and satisfied.

  6. My Dad always told made sure my brother and I had something to drop in the SA Red Kettle. In those days it might have been a dime or a quarter. But he ingrained in me never to pass a kettle without putting something in and with a smile and a Merry Christmas.

  7. The stories I could tell y’all of Toys for Tots…

Yes, it’s an excellent program, run by some really great people and a bunch of voluntold Marines. We have some really good times running those events. (Protip, You want more free food and adult beverage than you know what to do with? Work a T4T gig in Dress Blues. Better still if you’re single)

The parents of the kids that get the toys? Die in a fire. (not all of them. Not even a majority, but enough for horror stories)

    Merry Christmas all!

  8. Maggie- Yep, I taught my kids and grands to do the same…

Heath- Yep, heard the parents ARE the problem in a lot of cases… Dress uniform and single is always ‘good’… 😀
