When the 442nd went to Top Gun, around 1990, I think, they walked away with every trophy there, even the ground crews won their division. Of the four A-10 pilots that competed, one was a female captain (O-3) that was, in her civilian job, a teacher in the Kansas City school system. She was one of the best pilots there, and won the individual competition for air-to-ground, and aerial gunnery. At the awards banquet, she wore a T-shirt that said “Shoot like a girl… if you can!” I was delighted to go to Desert Storm with that gang!
