Reviews, a bleg…

The is a bleg for all of us poor, bottom of the list authors, that live and die by reviews… If you’re an indie writer, publishing via Amazon like I am, 50 reviews and 100 reviews are the two keystones for getting ‘better’ pushes from Amazon for our novels.

If you’ve read any of my books, the short story, or the novella, and left a review, I greatly appreciate it. If you haven’t and don’t mind taking 5 minutes, I’d appreciate an honest review.

The ones I’m shortest on are the Rimworld short, Rimworld- Into the Green, and The Morning the Earth Shook. All of those are below 50 reviews. HERE is a link to my author page which has all my books.

In other news, it looks like I’m not the only one getting those ‘lovely’ one star reviews. Bothย LB Johnson, and JD Kinmanย also got nailed on the 21st of July by an ‘undisclosed’ reviewer. JD put up an excellent post on the book of face, HERE, if you’re interested. While we, as authors, are cautioned to ‘never’ read the reviews (for good reasons, mainly our sanity, or what little of it is left), there ARE times when you get something like these that is just totally frustrating, even more so, when they are not verified purchasers, and ‘anonymous’. They fact that all three of us are christians and conservatives may or may not have played a part… Who knows…

Kicking the soap box back in the corner…

In the GOOD news category, if you want a paperback copy of The Lawdog Files, just click the cover below to go directly to it! ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s officially out!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ And yes, Lawdog is hyperventilating again…LOL

Reviews, a bleg… — 12 Comments

  1. There are a lot of big name writers who get one star reviews. And while I know that it impacts marketing, you shouldn’t read reviews. Never. Because you can’t do anything about them. Circle of Influence/Circle of Concern – only work on things where you have some control of the outcome.

    • I’d disagree a little. If one-stars are about formatting problems or other things, then self-published authors need to know so we can fix the problem. And if the reviews are pure abuse, they are worth flagging for the ‘Zon to consider for removal. Otherwise I generally agree with you, LL. Although I did grin when I got my first one-star, just because it was evidence for readers that I had people other than friends and family looking at the book.

  2. Two things to keep in mind:
    1. You can’t please everybody.
    2. Some people would bitch if you hung them with a gold rope.

Ignore them, maybe they’ll go away. Or keep on plugging, and when you get rich and famous, you can laugh at them, and their pathetic little cries for attention!

  3. Jealousy is ugly, and those who submit one-star reviews are angry without cause. I know it’s frustrating, but look at it this way: you only hit bumps in the road when you’re on the move. The opposite is just standing still.

  4. I just put in a review on ‘The Morning the Earth Shook’ and as always I enjoyed reading your book. I have noticed that most anytime a book is good and has real meaning and relevance to an issue there will be folks from the other side who disagree. That tension and the right and wrong of issues make the book interesting, relevant and engaging. Great work, keep it up, etc.

  5. Hey Old NFO;

I looked and in case I forgot to post a review, and Yes I already had or else I would post one. I did do one for your”into the Green” I apparently forgot to do that one….my bad. Perhaps if we ask Amazon to only allow “verified” purchases to make the review. Just a thought?

  6. Hey OldNFO, I pulled a Bob too.I had purchased The Morning The Earth Stool but left no review. Just rectified that. And screw ‘s if they don’t like good writing.

  7. Ditto that sentiment. I have gotten bad ones and some of them I use to reassess and improve. Others are just mean and were personally motivated or didn’t like who I am. Amazon should at least make them pay for the book. LMAO

  8. LL/TxRed- Agree with both of you! ๐Ÿ™‚

RS- I by and large DON’T read them… it’s only when somebody calls my attention to one that I’ll actually read it.

    Rev- Good point!

Bob- Nah, I’m really not ‘that’ worried about it. It will be what it will be. And thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

    SPE- Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Fargo- If only…LOL

  9. Apparently “Bob” is contagious, since I seem to have dropped the review ball myself. Fixed, now. Only four more to hit the magic 50!

  10. Grey Man was a good read. That it was a fast moving story helped a lot. I gave you a 5 star rating as I think, no, I know you deserve it. Thank you.
If you have a follow up on this story, I would like too read it
