Well, I wore out another keyboard…

This one lasted a year, and somewhere around 500,000 words…

And my new one… And N, I, and S work!!! Yea!

Yes, it’s a Microsoft Natural. I like it because it reduces my wrist issues, and has kept me from having carpal tunnel issues. Before these came out, I was really worried about my problems, but these keyboards have been an great help!

Of course there is a problem… Put me on a regular keyboard, and I’m huntin’ and peckin’… LOL And laptop keyboards really suck for me now. Sigh…

But the writing continues!!!

In other news, you really need to go watch THIS ONE, at PawPaw’s place. 95 years old, and flying the left seat in a C-47, just like he did 6 June 1944. They truly never forget…

I heard an 87 year old at Udvar Hazy talking through the entire pre-start checklist for a B-29 with his son and grandson. He also remembered the speeds, and talked about taking off from Tinian and never getting to altitude until they were at Iwo Jima due to weight (I went home and calculated that out, 750nm on the deck. Amazing that they didn’t crash). And he hadn’t been in the airplane in 60 years!!!

  1. Great video, and his mind and flying skills were still sharp.

I sleep with a wrist brace, and my wrist problems haven’t gotten any worse.

  2. I once knew an old gentleman whose AF career stretched from 1942 to 1970 retiring as a colonel. He flew B17s over Germany and had a VERY healthy respect for Luftwaffe fighter pilots. Through the years he flew both fighters and bombers, jets and propeller. He’d flown super-sonic in F100s, but when I asked him his favorite, without hesitation he replied the P51. I’ve heard that from others.

  3. Amazing. Thanks for the link.

My father-in-law noted one day that they were never so happy as when they got to ride in C-119s for combat jumps, after initial Stateside training in C-47s. Didn’t have to get out and push, was the impression. One of the few things he’d remark about the combat stars on his jump wings. Rakasan, indeed.

  4. How noisy is it? I’ve found I’ve gotten super sensitive to the clickety-clack of my typing speed when I’m on a roll, and cannot STAND my ergo keyboard. I’m about ready to drop $20 on a silent, wireless keyboard, just to get away from the noise that I can hear over my noise cancelling headphones!

  5. I’m glad he got to make that flight before he took off for the great beyond. I’m no where near that age, but I know how if felt to go back to sea on the USS Kid (DLG 100) at 71 years old. Some things you never forget and a few of us get to relive our past… and feel young again… until you start going up and down those damn ladders we used to maneuver like monkeys.

  6. NIS. Naval Investigative Service. There must be story there…
    😉

  7. Keyboards are a must have!I cannot do the ergo ones, however.

  8. I was just up in Seattle. Got stuck on I-5 around Boeing field. Looked up, and there was a B-17 flying over.

  9. I always follow the old guys wearing unit hats through NASM, both U-H and downtown.
“Humbling” is such an inadequate word for the experience.

  10. Another keyboard down… hey, I use the same one! (And have one in reserve for when this one goes down!)

That was an awesome video. You can see the moment he lifts off, and instinctively goes for the trim wheel.
