I’m done…

With Windoze…

Old computer was dying, and MS said they weren’t continuing support for Win 7 Pro after this year. I hate Win 10 with a passion so…

Or I will be as soon as I get all the @##%(*@( updates done… Got a good price from the Exchange, so new iMac.

Sigh…

In other news, Happy Father’s Day to all us fathers out there!

And we went back to Bill’s for catfish last night, got there at 1745, to face an HOUR wait! So we waited… And it was worth it! As we were leaving, some guy was coming in for a table for one. The waitress was apologizing for the wait, and he shrugged saying, “No problem I drove 230 miles to get here.” Don’t know where he came from, but he must REALLY like the catfish!

  1. I’m with you brother! My personal pc’s are running Ubuntu Linux, or a lite version of the same. I support Win 10 at work, and I hate it too. It’s trying to be like Apple and do everything for you only it’s incompetent.

    Good luck with it.

  2. I’ve been using Macs since they first came out…so welcome.

I used PC’s at work and was competent at it, but the Macs do things more effortlessly.

  3. STx- Linux wouldn’t have helped. Old Dell, on it’s last legs and out of memory too… sigh

LL- That they do, I’ve run a Mac laptop for about six years.

WSF- Take a look at Mac laptops. A LOT more intuitive, but there are some quirks, like right clicking a mouse with only one click (you have to use the command key and mouse click to right click)…

    • Check out the systems preferences for the mouse and trackpads. You can turn on right clicking without needing to use the command key for both mice and trackpads.

  4. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!!! You guys are THE BEST!!!

  5. There’s nothing wrong with Windows 10 that can’t be fixed by turning off Cortana, and isolating it from the network forever. If you are only after a disposable computer.

I’ve heard rumors that they are working on a new windows that is good, or that they’ve mitigated the worst of 10.

Given what happened with Torvalds, I’m expecting the Linux kernel to go down the path of issues Google is traveling.

As far as the information warfare is concerned, on the Google/Amazon range of the adversary spectrum, I rate Apple as closer to Google, and Microsoft as closer to Amazon. That said, at one point I was willing to run Safari on Windows, so Apple has not alienated me as fully as Google has.

I’m trying to keep my eyes open.

    • You can remove the Cortana menu items, but it’s still there and running in the background, along with half a dozen “telemetry” feeds back to the Mothership in Redmond.

  6. They just “upgraded” my work computer to Windows 10. and it reacts slowly to commands. Been a Mac user since day 1 and they can pry my cold dead hands from my mouse. Even I can solve what issues I have had without IT being called with my Macs.

  7. I’ve been working on Apple equipment before there was a Macintosh, and with Microsoft before there was Windows. I use Windows for work (NMCI anyone?), but only because I have to. Apple equipment at home, though now Linux on the all-in-one.
Between Apple and Microsoft operating systems, they’re just different flavors of Kool-Aid. Coke/Pepsi, Dem/Rep, Chevy/Ford, iOS/Android.
Linux variants will work on older hardware nicely, but it can be a bastard to work with accessories like printers and scanners. And LibreOffice is NOT 100% compatible with MS Office!
    Enjoy the new toy!

    • Heck, some different versions of MS Office are not 100% compatible with other versions of MS Office. Not when it comes to exactly replicating the formatting you had.

  8. ” they weren’t continuing support for Win 7 Pro after this year. I hate Win 10 with a passion”

It must have broken your heart when Ford stopped producing the Model T.

I my particular case, Window 10 has been the least problematic of all versions since 3.11

  9. Brig/Suz- Thanks!

    Bob- Good points!

    LM- Agreed!

WN- Yep! Sigh… we’ve had that conversation.

Miguel- LOL, I had to use a Win 10 Surface at work with the SO, it was an absolute POS, slow, clunky, constantly updating, and half the time refused to run the ‘compatible’ SO software, so NO, I don’t like Win 10. And the old Dell wouldn’t have enough memory to run it anyway.

  10. Good luck! I tried using a Mac when they were forcing Windows 10 down our throats, but… too many years in the Windowverse. I just couldn’t get comfortable with the Apple Way.

The one great advantage of using a Mac, of course, is that you don’t have to listen to all the people telling you that if you’d just switch to a Mac you wouldn’t have all those problems.

  11. Hey Old NFO;

Happy Fathers day to you and I use Windows 10, but I still miss my old XP. now if you start walking saying “Steve Jobs is god” wearing a robe and burning incense…I will then worry about you, LOL

  12. Mrs.C- Been using a Mac laptop for years 🙂

Margaret- I’ve been using both for about 6 or 7 years, so I can screw up in BOTH of them… LOL

    Rick- Thanks!

Bob- Thanks, and THAT will never happen!!! 😀

  13. Fancy! I am Apple illiterate. Everyone tries to get me to try it and I end up getting mad and frustrated. I will keep my Windows 10. I love it. Until they make a new one, then I will get a new laptop. But not until this one dies. Like really dead.
