Bullet dodged???

Looks like Marco is falling apart, now degraded to tropical storm and failing, but it’s still bringing rain, just not up toward north Texas. The coast is expected to get 3-5 inches.

Laura is not going quietly, however… She’s still heading north and is projected to impact the NOLA area, then up through Arkansas before turning east. However, the 3-5 inches of rain Marco will leave behind isn’t going to help with the potential flooding…

The other little ‘issue’ hanging out there is the potential for the Fujiwhara effect to come into play. THAT could make things interesting, depending on how long Marco hangs around, as the effect is based on the interactions of two storms. A good description of the effect is HERE.

As I said, please say a prayer for those in the path of these storms, with everything else going on, 2020 has NOT been a stellar year and it’s just barely half over.

  1. Boy, the Gulf Coast has had it rough the past few years. Reminds me of the Carolinas back in the 90’s… storms following storms. We still get ’em, but they are at least a bit farther apart (touching wood!). Hope PawPaw makes it through without too much trouble, Laura looks to be going over his house in central LA.

  2. The weather has certainly not been kind to the Gulf coast recently; I pray all affected folks come through without major issues.

  3. Hey Old NFO;

If it hits “Orleans”, and there is some flooding I can see the Mayor going for a repeat of Katrina and not saying crap and them blaming Trump to try to scuttle President trump on his reelection chances, hell it was effective on Bush and I can see the Media gleefully playing along with the lie. Heck if there is any dawdling by FEMA, to the cities, you can see the Mayors trying to make political capital out of it like that disgraced mayor from San Juan tried to do, and to my knowledge nobody in the media has apologized to Trump from that debacle either.

  4. The SitRep from the home office of the salt Mines said there was little to no danger of the Fujiwhara Effect here. Sounds like Marco was far enough ahead of Laura to avoid that.

Also, off topic for this post, but on topic for you and your blog, Sketches of a Black Cat is on sale for ninety nine cents, Kindle edition, today. https://tinyurl.com/y3ydnunj

  5. There still stands a decent chance of Laura downgrading rapidly, like Marco.

Seems the forecasters can’t, forecast that is, very well.

  6. Tom- True… sigh

    Rev- Thanks!

Hunter- Yep, that one was a PITA… My cousin was NG and was in NOLA 12 hours after it made landfall.

    Bob- Probably… dammit

Drang- That’s good news! Saw that once in WESTPAC and it was SCARY!

    Beans- One hopes.

  7. Also, re: FEMA “dawdling”: FEMA can’t do much until the President issues a declaration of emergency, and per the Stafford Act he cannot do that until the Governor makes a declaration and requests federal help.
In Katrina, Blanco (Gov. of LA. D) froze; “Deer in the headlights” and “1000 yard stare” are the phrases used.

  8. Looks like N/Cent Texas is spared, thank God. Still, “light showers” would be most welcome…

  9. Drang- Of course. I remember Camille and the QUICK reaction by both NG and .gov.

    LSP- True.

  10. Camille, Agnes, Andrew, Ivan, Irene, …
Funny how certain names stick with you.
