I made a mis’steak’…

Grrr… scheduler didn’t work… sorry for the delay!

Saturday night was my turn to cook for the North Texas Pilots, Shooters, and Writers assn.

I had told folks I was going to do ribs, donated by John Van Stry… But… I went brain dead Friday night and forgot to take them out of the freezer, like an idjit…

So, the scrambling began, since I don’t boil ribs, it takes me about 6 hours to actually prepare them correctly.

I’d threatened to do Steak Diane before, and since we had a fairly good head count this time, I decided to do that, using my old Ordnanceman’s recipe that he used to fix on the airplane (yes, we ate well!). I also did bacon wrapped asparagus on the grill, since I was using the burner on the grill (not setting the pan on fire in the house (kinda contra-indicated).

Bonus points were that the pan wasn’t an electric skillet, it wasn’t bouncing around, and wasn’t rushing to fix/eat in 15 minutes…

It may not look pretty, but it came out pretty well, and there were NO leftovers! Yay!!!

  1. Nice! Looks yummy! Last night for Mothers’ Day, we had our ‘adopted mother’ over for dinner. She’s an elderly friend in her late 80’s who lives in an assisted living facility and who has become part of the family. She’s sharp mentally, although we question her blind obedience to the Democrat party! Kind of like my biological mother was, when asked about specific issues, she’s very conservative, and then gets mad when you point out the Dems are against that position.
Anyway, I cooked NY Strips on the grill and sauteed a bunch of spinach and baked some potatoes in the oven. It was all great, topped off with some double chocolate cake I picked up at the store. Good times, and the only then left over was an extra baked potato I made so I can slice them and make home fries for breakfast this week sometime.

  2. Been there, done that with forgetting to thaw stuff. Not fun.

    • Dunno, there was the time Mrs. Andrew and I were supposed to cook for a 100 at a camp ground (old school camp ground, with huts and meeting hall and kitchen, and said kitchen was in the yard because the manager decided that that day (Friday) he was going to strip the kitchen down and paint it over the weekend we (the group we were with) had rented the place for. Wife came somewhat unglued and walked away, guy looked at me, asked me if she was serious about various threats and I said, “Yep. You’re doomed.” Kitchen was put back in less than 40 minutes…

All of this was 3 hours from our house and our car and trailer was loaded full of food and stuffs…

Other than that, it turned out well. For us. Him? Not so much. I think he pulled a back muscle hustling commercial appliances back into place.

  3. Made me hungry looking at the picture. Darned Brown Shoes gettin’ the good chow…

  4. “It may not look pretty”???? I know presentation counts a lot for high class cooking, but that looks like a mighty decent meal to me! Not that I’m in any way suggesting that it is not high class cookin…

  5. Yeah, but the 400 cycle airplane current makes it taste better in the electric skillet…..
