Happy Independence Day!!!

The 4th of July is the ONLY Independence Day we celebrate…

245 years ago, our founding fathers

declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of BritainKing George III, and were now united, free, and independent states. The Congress had voted to declare independence two days earlier, on July 2, but it was not declared until July 4.

I was lucky to be able to watch the 4th of July fireworks on the National Mall for a number of years from Ft. Myer, which overlooks the Potomac and the Mall…

And there is this nice little video from the Navy with ‘our’ fireworks…

Go enjoy the day and your local fireworks!!! Long may our flag wave in freedom!!!

We’ll be doing burgers and brats, and our little local fireworks demo tonight.

  1. BUCKINGHAM PALACE. OFFICIAL.
TODAY HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT.

On August 24th, 1814 units of the British Army , in conjunction with the Royal Marines, came ashore in the American State of Maryland, and proceeded to capture the American Capital of Washington D.C. Once in possession of the city, as a legitimate reprisal under the laws of war, Our forces proceeded to set afire every public building in the city, including both the White House and the Congressional Chambers; sparing only the Patent Office, in the name of scientific advancement.

Given that the bicentennial of these events has recently passed, I would like to take this opportunity to assure the citizens of the United States that, in light of the deep and permanent ties that have since arisen between our two nations, it would be quite impossible for Our Armed Forces to again burn all of the governmental offices in Washington D.C. and certainly not while they are occupied.

    So please stop asking.

    Thank you.
    H.M. Elizabeth II.

  2. Happy Independence Day to all men and women who serve and have served in the furtherance of this great nation’s freedom, and to anyone else who appreciates the values espoused in our Declaration of Independence.
And to those fighting against all we stand for, go someplace else where you can enjoy the “benefits” of those other thoughts and ideals, and leave us the hell alone!

  3. Hey Old NFO;

Happy Independence Day to you and yours from me and mine….now if I was closer, I would be “helping” you with the Brats and such…Just so you know…LOL

  4. I just noticed the last line.
    “Fireworks demo.”
Given certain stories I’ve read on a particular blog, and given I am reasonably certain the author of said stories will be in attendance and quite likely participating, please convey my respects and condolences to all the lizards’ families in your area, and assure them their scaly loved ones’ sacrifices will not be in vain.
Also, all those who have annoyed said storyteller should probably check their hubcaps before leaving for the evening.

  5. Happy Independence Day–sounds like you celebrated as it should be.
