One catastrophic condition in the lives of many African Americans today is the horrendously high murder rate that they experience. While, according to the U.S. Census (U.S. Census Quick Facts), African Americans made up 12.6% of the U.S. population in 2010, and 13.3% in 2015, they, according to the FBI were in 2013 victims of 45% of the murders, in 2018 victims of 52.4% of the murders in the U.S., more than three times the rate that might be expected by population.
What are the facts about the extremely high rate of African American victims? One might get the impression from the energetic campaigns of Black Lives Matter that African Americans are murdered by white racists, especially police. But, according to the FBI, in 2013, of the 2,491 “Black or African American” murdered, 189 were murdered by “whites,” 20 by “other,” 37 by “unknown,” and 2,245 by “Black or African American.” In other words, in 2013, 90.12% of African Americans murdered were murdered by other African Americans.
The years since are much the same, e.g. in 2018 , of 2,925 African Americans murdered, 2,600 or 89% were murdered by other African Americans. It is difficult to attribute this to white racism. And while in 2013, 189 African Americans were murdered by whites, 409 whites were murdered by African-Americans. In cross-race murders, more than twice as many whites have been murdered as African Americans.
The other side of the coin is that 48% of all murders are committed by African Americans, more than three times what would be expected from African-Americans’ 13% of the population. So African Americans are involved in the most serious crime, either as victims or perpetrators, at a rate that far exceeds other American communities. This cannot be considered a direct effect of anti-African American racism.
African Americans, like all Americans, have choices and make decisions. They are not automatons mechanically reacting to an adverse environment. African Americans have agency, select their goals, and act to achieve them. Most African-Americans do not choose to engage in crime; most choose to become productive citizens.
But too many African Americans do choose to engage in crime, and too many African-Americans have been their victims.
My theory is that 80% of whites,blacks,yellers,browns,reds,etc are trash and have no moral foundation . 20% are people worth loving and befriending . But yes you are correct . We all bleed red and came forth from the Hand of the Almighty .

a) st, Harvard is full of shit. Both generally, and that specific study smells. Humans are hard to measure, causation may be reverse, 4% is not huge, and in other things Harvard is desperately trying to pretend that people actually vote Democrat.
b) robert orians, I’m irritable and snappish, so I would note that those are fairly specific numbers. I don’t think I need to spell out the tedious rant about measurement error, sampling, etc.
c)I am reminded of how much I rave about the CRT theory that mathematics is white supremacist. This can be restated as ‘mathematics is not for blacks’, which is a damned lie.
d) CRT is a subset of critical theory, which fundamentally claims that the truth of a statement depends on who makes the statement, allegedly determined through an analysis of power. Allegedly, because we are for some reason expected to trust faculty at universities on this, who are funded by government officials with the power to tax and spend.
e) Basic theory of mathematics also covers true and false statements, but the assumption is essentially that the truth and falsehood of a statement has nothing to do with who is making it. Applying critical theory to math mathematically breaks mathematics in weird and perhaps unpredictable ways. A mathematician might consider that this means that critical theory is proven false by contradiction.
f) Key point, critical theory and mathematics may be incompatible.
g) Statistical arguments are also mathematical arguments.
h) Our tests for discrimination and disparity should reflect the mathematical uncertainties of statistics. Sadly, people are badly educated and poorly trained, and do not do so.
i) Whiner alleging racism does not give ‘how many out of how many’, error bars, or sampling considerations. Without those, it is always an assertion without evidence.
j) We look at the fuller data set, and while there is clearly something hinky going on, it does not only support whiner’s claim.
k) In particular, whiner appears to be aggregating whites, and aggregating blacks, and trying to get people to argue aggregate rates of criminality, instead of breaking things into smaller groups and comparing by degree of criminality. Okay, we do not really have that data, because what we do have is aggregated through federal law enforcement, and is probably not trustworthy.
l) Crime is a hazardous activity, and so more fatal deaths will occur in groups that are a higher degree of criminality, and more determined in their criminality. Comparing death rates by including non-criminal blacks, and non-criminal whites can throw off the analysis considerably.
m) If the data existed, we should be comparing subsets by intensity of criminality and confidence in criminal success.
n) Defund the police seems to have significantly increased crime.
o) This confirms the plausibility that differences in criminality by race are likewise tied to differences in law enforcement, IE, the blue big city crooks telling the police to ignore criminals.
p) It is possible that the thing preventing white criminals from being as extreme is fear of white on white vigilantism.
q) If so, any racism would be the racism resulting in lawful blacks having a greater sense of solidarity, deference to the formal legal system, etc.
r) If someone is young and has a criminally inclined personality, treating them gently can result in them growing older with a confidence that nothing will ever happen to them, whatever they do. Which can result in stupidly suicidal things like robbery while intoxicated as a lifestyle, wandering the streets strung out on meth, etc.
s) So, easing law enforcement action towards blacks might well ultimately result in the differential outcome claimed.
t) Fundamentally, there are too many people in the US for me to follow the crime situation through specific cases. I have to rely on statistical aggregates. If I cannot trust the aggregates, I have no information.
u) It is sometimes fun to troll people with ‘by statistics, cops should be killing /more/ black men’, but there is a basic mistake in this argument. ‘Find an aggregate problem, then try to address the problem in aggregate’ is the worse option when the tools for aggregates are much worse than the tools for individuals. Here, we should be working at the individual level, and ignoring a lot of the aggregate.
v) Democrat ‘reform’ actors do appear to be a criminal conspiracy here. It may be appropriate to go after the conspiracy, and capitally punish the conspirators.

Note also that the statistics for murderers is sourced from the FBI, which lacks a category for Hispanic criminals. They are recorded as “white”. Otherwise, the number of white murderers would be miniscule.
Hispanics can be recorded as victims of crimes, but not as criminals.
A pattern here?

Probably ran out of words repeating himself while describing what everyone already knows, society is upside down, and that won’t improve any time soon without a lot of what none of us want to experience.

Seriously, I was writing to an inner sense of ‘complete’, and thought I had gone on a little too long. I guess I could write out the series of essays I outlined the other day on why the public is naive about statistics, and is not adequately supervising the administrators of public universities…
Grog, yeah, I am very tedious and repeat myself too much whether or not my attempts at explanation are venting or not. Venting is a better thing to do now than most of the direct action remedies.
We do have red state legislatures bitching at their public universities over critical race theory, and the administrators of those universities biting their thumbs in return. If the legislatures are not purely acting for appearance, we can peacefully dismantle some of the centers of evil. And we need to change the public university professional schools and state licensure of professions to mitigate the damage being done to the professions.
Venting here as an internet rando could possibly do some good. I am extremely angry, and have stupidly gotten myself into circumstances where I fear stating this stuff publicly under my own name. So, if I bring this to the attention of my state legislature, I am going to be doing so anonymously, and that will depend on my poor writing and reasoning skills. So, /If/ I do so, I will benefit from calming down, and being able to present the case succinctly and rationally.
Which is a problem in the best of times, because I am obviously not familiar with the meaning of the word concise, and apparently think it is some sort of food that I refuse to eat.
Fundamentally, I have a lot of grudges now, I can definitely expect a reckoning for some, pushing on simple ‘information warfare’ measures by speaking truth is productive because of ‘preference cascades’, and there are things I can do regardless of whether I can gather a quorum to properly hang some of the sorts guilty of capital offenses.
Yea…I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m thinkin’ ole Bob is professionally trained in analytics and numbery thingys.

I am from Southern California and grew up in the 60s and early 70s before I went to college in 75. My city was equal White, Mexican-American, and Asian-American, but no Blacks, and all got along and socialized. I had to work my way through College and did it working for the phone company in East LA and the hills (Mexican), and then later South Central LA (Black).
The Mexican areas were bad but people wanted their phones to call Mexico so they left the Phone Company alone. Overall the gangs only attacked each other.
In the Black Areas there was still damage from the Watts Riots in the 60s, there were drive bys, and all people were attacked including me. My crew and Management was various races and it did not matter. The area was open warfare. There were many areas the police did not go into as they were immediately attacked.

I spent my Independence Day vacation with my brother in Rice Lake. I went to the Shell Lake fireworks display, and this is what I saw:
Families sitting together, talking quietly and relaxing.
Children playing in a specified area so as not to disturb others. People were considerate of older people.
A lack of alcohol and drunkenness.
Friendly people. I could talk with anyone (complete strangers) and they were all glad to wish me a good evening.
Trash baskets that weren’t overflowing.
In Columbus, OH, I wouldn’t have attended a fireworks show unless I was sitting inside a privately owned secure area outside Columbus.
If I did attend, and that’s a big IF, I would have packed two pistols with me; one in my right breech, one in an ankle rig, plus two more in my car.
I wouldn’t go alone, and I’d make sure my friend was packing heat.
I’d choose my routes carefully, including time of arrival, departure, and emergency exit.
I’d be prepared to hear teeth rattling rap music constantly (black people chanting about how much fun it is to kill white people).
All the crowds would be large, loud, and drunk or high or some combination of all three.
Women dressed like whores.
Firecrackers tossed around randomly.
Children screaming constantly.
Trash and litter everywhere, including bottles and cans.
Road rage, and road rage involving ‘shots fired’.
No police. CPD would not be in attendance, or if they were, they wouldn’t do anything about crime.
One thing I didn’t see at Shell Lake was black people.
Another thing I didn’t see was LGBT et al flags, signs, bumper stickers, and people. I didn’t see any faggots or dykes sucking on each others’ faces.
Oh, but I did see a few American flags and Trump/Pence yard signs and bumper stickers.
As a kid in Henry County, TN, and Morris County, TX, my friends & playmates were of varied colors (mostly black & white in TN–it was the 1960s–some of lighter brown in TX). We never cared much, & even as adults we didn’t separate much. If you’re all poor, you don’t have many differences about which to argue, unless you just want to argue & bitch. If you’re that way, you don’t even need race as a hot button.
It saddens me to know how equal we got be all be, and how divided many of us now are. I have friends of over 40 years who buy into the hatred, & I just can’t understand it. It heartens me that I have more who are as frustrated as I about what’s being done to the younger folks, fomenting the old hate that we’d overcome.
