You know, every time I hear something like this, I think “How stupid can they get”. I need to stop thinking that, apparently they’re hearing me and taking it as a challenge!
I wonder how many super-breakthroughs we will need in order to have all of the war machines turned into an electric fleet? Does that include electric helicopters, fighters, & bombers?
I can see it working, if we can get some amazing battery tech available, and if we can get lots of portable nuclear reactors available as well.
I’m confident that we will need some other break-throughs I can’t even comprehend. My son-in-law was a Navy sub nuclear power plant guy. Maybe he has a clue about this stuff, but I don’t.
But the real question for the Navy is: When we go from re-fuelers to re-chargers, what color will the shirts be? Grapes won’t be appropriate any more. This bothers me. A lot. I don’t even know what color electricity is!
According to Wikipedia the latest version of an M1 Abrams weighs in at approx. 77 tons with a light for power gas turbine engine. How much more with a (relatively) low power density battery pack? Also, as a tank crew member, do you really want to be sitting on a lithium battery pack that is prone to spontaneous combustion even when people aren’t shooting at it?
Then there is the obvious issue of where are we going to get the power to charge said electric beasts if we have to send tanks and support vehicles into a third world country. Many countries only have electricity in the cities, and often electricity is rationed even there. Hell, Commiefornia is already experiencing rolling blackouts and brownouts because they don’t have adequate generating capacity.
They are on a mission to destroy the USA and they are succeeding. You Can’t Fix Stupid as they have people follow them.
All part of the plan to destroy the nation. If you look at what they do through that lens, you clearly see they are well on the way to meeting the objective.

I would note that it isn’t purely simple stupidity or a lack of skin in the game when it comes to military conflict.
How do you evaluate technical claims, or conclusions arrived at by mathematical modeling?
How do you estimate human behavior from other human behavior?
The information we have about violent conflict, and military use, and the way that we evaluate it, tell us that future military conflict is unavoidable. We use a different method than they do to evaluate possibilities of human behavior, and so we conclude that behavior A is unavoidable, and behavior B will never happen to any really significant degree. They have opposite conclusions.
On technical claims, we think that we can in principle duplicate the mathematical analysis, and that if it fails the duplication test, that alone is evidence that the claim not prepared under our supervision might be wrong. Ultimately, reality does not care what our model indicates, and will discover any flaws in our thinking and decisions. They have a cult of experts, state power, and party truth. For the cultist, that stuff may be much more real to them than mathematical errors and technical ineptitude.
So, it is not simple stupidity or lack of investment. To them, global warming is real, and the certainty of future wars is not.
