Sure, he wants to ‘protect’ us…
California governor — and stealth presidential candidate/Ron DeSantis obsessive — Gavin Newsom announced a plan on Thursday to implement “common sense” gun control measures nationwide, “while leaving the 2nd Amendment unchanged and respecting America’s gun-owning tradition.”
“Our ability to make a more perfect union is literally written into the Constitution,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “So today, I’m proposing the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to do just that. The 28th Amendment will enshrine in the Constitution common sense gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and gun owners overwhelmingly support – while leaving the 2nd Amendment unchanged and respecting America’s gun-owning tradition.”

Funny thing is, like ‘most’ of the Dem’s proposals, you don’t get to see the actual verbiage that would constitute the new amendment… How can we ‘support’ something we’ve never seen???
What a surprise! NOT!!!
I keep getting a visceral reaction that could put me in jail.
I’ve got a better idea, how about some common sense politician control?
Lawfare that’s for dinner.
All professional politicians (spit) are past masters in lawfare and lying to the public.
The Enemy Within
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” –Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106 BC – 43 BC
Seems nothing is new under the sun.
“leave the 2nd Amendment unchanged”
Weasel words. He can’t change the text because there isn’t public support. He will attempt to change the meaning completely by redefining it, as all Progressives try to do, to mean “no one is trying to take your hunting rifle”. Right up until the time they take your hunting rifle, of course.
Tens of millions of people will, however, vote for him if he is the Democratic candidate because our political system is broken and Americans have been indoctrinated into a marxist cultlike state of mind.
Because he’s protected California so well, right? Just like he PROTECTED San Francisco.
He needs to be stood up against a wall just like every other 3rd world dictator.
So is he calling for a convention to amend the constitution?
Otherwise it’s up to Congress and that dog won’t hunt.
Its free publicity. Like standing on your head amidst a crowd.
Common sense gun reform would involve disarming FBI, Capitol Police, ATF, and Secret Service.
Commonsense gun control – use two hands unless you’ve practiced a lot single-hand, get to the range or otherwise practice and drill on a regular basis, and live by the Four Rules.
Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.
Patrick Henry
Yep, and that’s why those conservatives or libertarian types calling for a constitutional convention thinking it will change things are misguided or outright fools.
A Con-Con will be full of lefties like Newsom using it to fundamentally reshape the Constitution to their liking. The Constitution we have now is fine, we just have to actually use and implement it instead of ignoring it.
All- Thanks for the comments, and yes, TXRed, always practice single handed too! 🙂
Remember you have to pass it to see what’s in it…SMH.
That’s why German commodes have that shelf …
Wayne- AGAIN!!! sigh
My only thought that wouldn’t be banned by the Gramma police for language is that I have noticed that “common sense” isn’t all that common, and I’m betting cold hard cash that the CA’s governor’s idea of common sense and mine are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
And a question: If ya raise the age that someone can buy a gun from 18 to 21, what are you going to do with all the 18 year old Marines/Sailors/Army guys who are going off to boot camp from high school? Let someone else buy the guns? Not teach them how to shoot until they are 21??? How’s that gonna work? It’s a Mental Health Issue dude, not a tool issue!!!
I truly wish he would stop coming up with these hot ideas–now NY is evidently thinking about a reparations deal along the lines of what CA just passed–or was it just in the news? Anyway–now NY needs to figure out how to duck that great idea!!
The Constitution only ever promised the pursuit of happiness, not that you would actually get it! Sheesh!!
i) absolutely a mental health issue
ii) communists and the ‘scholars’ in academic psychology are basically all crazy, and they are driving some of the formal consensus about definition of sane.
iii) the ‘new discoveries’ in psychology are a result of carefully curating the theories abused. A different arrangement* is that we ‘ignorant backward’ mainstream Americans who are often Christian and often conservative have ‘other ways of knowing’, by which we can tell that by ‘our truth’ that these scholars are at times demon possessed, promoting imitation of cultures with very rates of demon possession, and thus having the result of increasing demon possession. Their policy recommendations wrt mental health were never valid for or authentic to an American Christian population.
iv) In particular, their idols of mental health bureaucratic policy are in no way something that Christians are bound to bow down to and submit to. Remedies based in collective action are their drum circle, not ours. We are correct to refuse, with prejudice.
v) We are in fact justified in choosing to pray over these things, instead of doing what they wish for us to do. The prayers that they denounce may be the most productive thing that could possibly be done.
*Note: this is a rearrangement of their types of theoretical argument. If the core assertion is unconditionally true, then I do not feel comfortable saying so without more deliberation.
Suz- Good points all… sigh
Its not “common sense” to ban the kinds of firearms least often used in crime.
Yawn.
That dickhead was already on the accountability roster. This just gilds the lily.
Basically, opposition has an interesting model of the rest of America.
We’ve been talking about the constitution, and saying, “No, we do not consent to your attempt to unilaterally redefine the formal deal that has been previously negotiated.”
Their takeaway is that their unilateral re-definitions need to impose a change to formal wording.
Where they are concerned, specifically, the deal is already effectively vacant. Newsome is Pelosi’s nephew, and implicated in her shit by a combination of association and his own enthusiasms of political speech. Pelosi was head of the Capital Police, for the term prior to Jan. 6 2021, and the term of Jan. 6 2021. Thus, certain details of the security arrangements made for that day implicate her in a Reichstag fire attempt that was also intended to have ‘terrorists’ kill or harm Republicans in Senate and Congress. The strict text of the constitution, especially combined with Lincoln vs. Davis, implies that in an insurrection the President can authorize the unorganized militia to act. Pelosi’s attempts to try Trump for ‘insurrection’ are both necessarily impossible and farcically impossible as a reading of the controlling law.
Newsome is doubling down on Pelosi faction nutjobbery, presumably because he is who she has available. Perhaps they are trying to get an escalation that will serve their interests?
Fundamentally, the constitution is an ineffective scheme for resolving the current disputes, because these people are not sane enough, nor of the culture enough, to abide by any constitutional process of resolution.
It may still be an effective tool for disputes within the majority of Americans, who are of the culture, and are sane relatively enough.
