It’s alive!!!

A month late, but it published yesterday evening! Rimworld- Diversions

The blurb-

Freighter captains are supposed to make the numbers, hit the routes on time, never deviate, don’t upset any passengers, and always do what the boss says.

Danny Ortega and his ship, the DSRV Ghost, fail every single one of those. No one in their right mind would hire him…

Which leaves the truly odd routes and cargos, and a rep as ‘hot shots’ that will carry special time sensitive loads anywhere, anytime.

As long as he can keep his ship, his marriage, and his crew together, Danny never worries about a fixed schedule. Pirates, plagues, enemies of his passengers trying to take them out, too little money, too much money, and getting trapped in alien mating rituals, sure, but any semblance of a schedule is merely an unanticipated cascade of opportunities.

Fortunately, his ship is full of surprises, and not all of his crew are who they appear to be…

Many thanks to the alpha and beta readers, my editor, Steph, and Joe for a great cover!

Next up is Michael Watson’s book, Hunting in the Shadows

The blurb-

This is a non-fiction book of history. The events described here took place in Borneo during the Indonesian Confrontation in the latter half of 1964 and in the Republic of Vietnam during that country’s fight for its very existence throughout 1965-1968. Malaysia, with the assistance of its allies, prevailed in the Confrontation. Unfortunately the Republic of Vietnam, after being abandoned by its allies, succumbed to a full sale Communist armored and infantry invasion in April 1975.

This is the story of an Australian Army officer who was seconded to support the efforts of the Republic of Vietnam in their clandestine war against the National Liberation Front. The story is told precisely as events unfolded without efforts to minimize or maximize. It’s a story of a brutal civil war, of a proxy war, of love, death, and revenge in a wartorn setting. Both the government of the Republic of Vietnam and the National Liberation Front (Viet Kong) engaged in systematic assassination as a matter of policy. Reading this book requires that you lens it in the context of people and events as they took place.

Note- This book is NOT for the faint of heart. It is a bit repetitive at times, and doesn’t sugarcoat any of the brutality of war…  Just sayin…

  1. Thanks! Just ordered kindle version. I hope sales go through the roof as I really enjoy the Rimworld series of books.

  2. Just bought the Kindle version of Diversions.
I hope that it does well, and brings more readers to your books. Love the Rimworld story universe.
    Thanks, John

  3. I’m well into Mike W’s book and it’s everything you say it is.

  4. Purchased it and started it yesterday.. Damn you! I looked up after “the End” and it was well after my bedtime.. Well done, Jim.

Some people (who earned it) find out what happens when a Mama Bear’s cubs are threatened.

  5. I am currently reading “Hunting in the Shadows” and will be on to “Diversions” next.

MikeW’s book is very interesting and illuminating. I was just post-Vietnam because it ended while I was working to get those gold bars and go on to AF pilot training. However it confirms a lot of stories I heard in the mid-70s from folks that had been there regarding special ops.

  6. It’s now on my Kindle and I’m looking forward to the reading journey.

  7. Reading Diversions now. While completely unnecessary to the plot, would you consider a short appendix in an upcoming story with Ghost’s complete 33 item checklist? The old aircrewman in me can’t stand the blank space between “internal power” and “clock.” 🙂

  8. Bought the Kindle version of Diversions. Finished in about 4 hours. Left review on Amazon. Do we have to wait three years to get another story about the Ortega family?

  9. Ordering both.
I’ve seen very little on our (Australia’s) involvement in the Malayan Emergency and the Konfrontazi.

There are still people who think that the Indonesians are the most obvious threat on our horizon. I don’t agree, but we do have history.

    Peter

  10. Bought Diversions, will hopefully get to it soon. And it looks like it’s #1 in Colonization Science Fiction on Amazon right now.

  11. Any chance more of your books will go to Audible? I like listening while I drive.

    • Thank you. I’ve got and listened to those. Eagerly awaiting the others.

  14. Just finished “Diplomatic Immunity” and purchased “Diversions” and have started reading it.
