Interesting…

Welp, we all know that the US women’s soccer team lost to Sweden in the knockout round of 16.

Headed into the Women’s World Cup, the US women’s national soccer team (USWNT) was aiming to make history and become the first team — men or women — to win three consecutive world cups. That all came crashing down this weekend when the top-ranked US lost in penalty kicks to Sweden in the round of 16, the first of the competition’s four knockout rounds.

I find it interesting that Abad-Santos points at politics as the ‘reason’ the right is down on them for the loss.

An informal poll at the Legion meeting last night was that not a soul watched, and most didn’t care. One woman frankly stated words to the effect that “Frankly, they aren’t likeable, they don’t stand for the anthem, and don’t put their hands over their hearts. Not like the girls that were on the teams back in the nineties and early two thousands. Those young ladies were proud to be playing for America, and they showed it!”

Another of the ladies pulled this one up on her phone and laughed, saying it was on the money.

I tend to agree with her, as most of the ‘press’ I’ve heard about the team is their ‘stands’ for various things, not about how well they play.

And yes, the women were beaten by a bunch of 15 year old boys in 2017- Article, HERE.

Frankly, I don’t care. Soccer has never been something I watch or care about. I have other more important things to worry about.

  1. There was a commercial for… something… where they asked her what was the most impressive goal ever. She said “Besides every I’ve made?”
I didn’t think it was possible for my disdain for her to intensify.

  2. Soccer? There was a soccer game? The American team lost? Meh.

  3. The only times I’ve watch soccer were when my kids and grandkids played, and that movie with Stallone and Michael Caine.

  4. The only women’s sport worth watching is beach volleyball.

  5. I gave up on sports when across various sports they started to kneel and not show respect for the American Flag and the American People. I stopped watching on TV and going to any events. It did not matter if it was men’s or women’s sports as at this point none matter.

  6. I haven’t eaten a Subway sandwich since she started making commercials for them.
Some corporations are REALLY stupid. (Anheuser-Busch too.)

  7. On the other hand, the Swedes showed respect for their flag and anthem, were courteous, nice, played well, and quite enjoyed beating the weird boy that Whatsername has turned itself into.

Extra credit for looking cute and beautiful… Unlike the weird boy thing that Whatsername has turned itself into.

Megan, “Oh, we need to make the same money as the guys!”

14yo from Texas, “Oh, we beat the whatevers, do we get their salary?”

All for a game that’s less exciting to watch than curling.

  8. I don’t know the game, have never watched one, and have zero interest.

It does seem to have a place for youth. Good exercise, inexpensive facilities, etc. A grand niece earned her college degree via a soccer scholarship.

  9. National women’s teams play against schoolboy teams when they want to practice against larger, stronger, faster opponents. I think it began during the East-German doping era. ….. and yeah, they often lose. Happens in Hockey (Field Hockey), too.

The article tries to excuse the women’s team as not taking the match seriously, but anyone who knows that seriousness with which professional international athletes take their training, will call bullshit on that one.

  10. Hey Old NFO;

I turned off a lot of professional sports when they were more about ‘virtue signalling” than actually playing, and the meat servo’s playing had the audacity to lecture me and others when they live better than 99% of the American public….Screw them.
