One step closer…

Got my second ‘bionic’ eye yesterday…

Now with all new lenses, so we’ll see how much I have to spend to upgrade the glasses, readers, shooting glasses, etc. in 5 weeks.

Thanks to those who’ve commented, emailed, and made ‘other’ recommendations on the cataract surgery.

  1. Yep. Lots of post-op adjustment expenses. Wife read somewhere that Medicare will pay for the first set of glasses post-op. Dunno if true, but too far back for me in any case. Only visual adjustment device I didn’t have to change was the sun visor in front of the driver’s seat. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just found this: “Medicare doesnโ€™t usually cover eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) helps pay for corrective lenses if you have cataract surgery that implants an intraocular lens. Corrective lenses include one pair of eyeglasses with standard frames or one set of contact lenses.”

  2. Hey Old NFO

You gonna do the sound effect from “The Six Million Dollar Man” now when you focus on something? Yeah I know…Bad Joke ๐Ÿ˜€ Seriously though, glad things went well for you.

  3. I literally had eye problems from birth. I wore glasses from birth until 69 years old. Then the eye doctor said I needed eye surgery because of cataracts. I was scared shitless at the thought but I went through the surgery. Now I don’t need glasses except for readers. Wish I’d done it years ago.

  4. ONFO: Go for it! Binocular vision is a good thing; ask Wiley Post.

My eye doc just informed me that my insurance will pay for a glass eye (when it comes to that) imprinted with any number of images such as the US Flag or sports logos; the Green Bay Packers logo is particularly popular hereabouts. AND, out-of-pocket of course, there is the glass eye that comes apart, making the interior space available for whatever. I’m leaning towards a laser pointer with a teeny battery a la the Terminator.

  5. Seeing better is a great thing.

Glad to hear all went well.

Bob. Even though I’m more than old enough, I don’t remember the Six Million Dollar Man sounds. I have to look that up.

Robert. And maybe you could arrange that the hearing aids also play the Terminator theme when you are shooting laser beams from your eye!

    • John: Who told you I have hearing aids?!? Of course I do, being a 70yo veteran. Trouble is, I’m the only one who would hear the music. At work, a client accidently(?) connected his laptop to my aids via bluetooth and I suddenly had REALLY LOUD rock music in my ears. Jeez.

  6. BobF- VA will give me a pair of glasses to ‘update’ to the current prescription in 5 weeks (as soon as the second eye settles down).

    Bob- LOL

Pat- I know, that’s why I’m putting this stuff up! And the drops suck! 2 different drops 4x a day for a week, then 3x, 2x, 1x for the next four weeks. And they have to be five minutes apart, so you’re tied down for 10 minutes each time (and they burn for a bit when first applied).

Bob- I will have both regular glasses for shooting/computer/reading, and readers for the regular stuff.

Robert- Yep, it is! And Wiley Post’s airplane had ‘issues’ with rudder/elevator control that actually caused that crash… sigh Re the glass eye, snort…

John- Yes it IS!!! The hearing is still an issue… sigh

  7. ONFO: You just made me realize I didn’t know the cause of Post’s crash. Huh. Thanks.

Re laser eye: I’m all in if it incorporates a range finder.

  8. What a waste of a splendid….er……justification.

Boss: Where are you, what’s wrong?
    You: Problem with my eyes.
    Boss: Explain.
You: I can’t see me coming to work.
