This is just…weird!!!

Whole bunch of time sinks here if you start following the links- fair warning!

My wife and I have been considering buying a property on the Hawaiian island of Kauai to escape the chill, rainy Vancouver winters. One can imagine our distress when we learned that someone I regard as among the most contemptible people on the planet, Mark Zuckerberg, is building a 1,500-acre compound on this most beautiful island in the Hawaiian archipelago.

I, for one, have never understood the ‘ideal’ of hiding underground with no clue of what is going on around you, much less the zero vitamin D from exposure to the sun. However, apparently this is the newest ‘great’ idea amongst the elites!
Far as I’m concerned, they are welcome to it! I want to see what is coming at me, so I’ll have some kind of chance to fight back, if needed.

  1. The people that think they will survive a nuclear war by building underground shelters not only will not know what is going on on top but eventually will have to come out to the surface. That is unless an earthquake or tsunami floods their shelter and they drown. Everything that is happening and will happen God is still in control and if I die because of something stupid such as nuclear war I also want to see it coming and I know my Lord Jesus will either protect me or take me home.

    • Amen.
I’m waiting for Ez 38 to happen any day now.

  2. Unless you have trusted minions or some kind of robot patrolling top-side, the solar panels that power the complex are vulnerable to attacks as simple as mud or a pair of side-cutters with insulated handles.

Ventilation is another weak point. Find the intakes and close them or stuff them full of trash and set it on fire.

If there is a shake-out that causes massive, civil unrest the best chance of survival will be a balanced portfolio of passive (don’t be there) and active (change aggressor’s priorities by poking holes in them) capabilities.

  3. From my standpoint, Zuckerberg is not right in the head. Regardless of his wealth, and intelligence, his common sense leaves much to be questioned.

  4. This has been going on for over 10 years with the Zuck. He walled off land and has even the power to get prosecutors and other government agents to arrest/harass/evict native people, which if anyone knows modern Hawaii, are complete a-holes about ‘their sacred lands blah blah blah.’

This is right up there with the buying of the Magnum PI estate and tearing it down and building a seawall without government permission that the Obamas did. Of course they got away with it because Obamas.

It used to be the rich and powerful had to roughly play the same game as us low lifes, but the rift between the ‘rich elite’ bastards and normal people is getting exponentially bigger every year.

As to bomb shelters, well, if I had the bank, heck yeah I’d have a storm shelter outfitted for whatever coming storm it is. Hurricane, fire, war, pestilence, Taylor Swift fans, whatever. And probably have a nice cabin on top of it, too.

  5. I am reminded of that Twilight Zone episode where the guy comes out of the bunker to a desolation that isn’t worth living in.

  6. He’s on an island in the middle of the ocean. So if the SHTF, he’s not getting resupplied. Among the other problems described above.

I feel sorry for the folks he’s chased off and I’m a bit steamed about the land he’s ruining. Otherwise? Meh.

  7. Rev 16-20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
The earthquake not only destroys cities but also triggers massive geological change. Earthquakes are a major cause of tsunamis, and this earthquake is so massive that islands are noticeably moved. The earthquake also flattens mountains. The world will undergo tremendous topographical changes that include changes to Israel’s landscape. The Mount of Olives will split into two. One half of the mountain will move northward; the other half southward.
Hawaii still bears the results of 100ft Tsunamis may eons ago. It sits on a hot spot that is still active and holds many fault areas.

    • In the Japanese earthquake of 2011, ONE of the many tsunami’s that hit was measured at 130+ feet. Most of them ran between 30 to 70 feet.

  8. Kauai is remote and agricultural enough to be a good choice to ride out civilizational collapse… If you get along with the locals. And zuck is awful pale for the locals to accept him; an underground lair is not likely to change that.

  9. 1500 acres is a lot for us peons but isn’t much land by western ranch standards.

The whole idea of you riding out the maelstrom in your private kingdom? Remember these words, The King is dead, Long live the King!
I bet the Zuck wouldn’t last a year.

  10. The uber rich who build and stock these compounds are grossly out of touch with reality. What they are actually doing is creating a safe space for the hired thugs they foolishly think will risk their lives to protect them. When TSHTF and their money is worthless these Uber rich will be he first strung up by those familiar with and capable of violence.

  11. When the world goes FUBAR his security will BBQ him. I bet there will be plenty of memorable available to residents.

  12. TXRed- Agreed! I know folks on Kauai and Ni’hau. They DO NOT like interlopers…

All- The hubris WILL be those elites’ downfall.

  13. The Discards… has comments on elitists in bunkers.

  14. Maybe the people think living underground will be forgotten over time (out of sight – out of mind) ? I don’t know – doesn’t seem to be of a life. Build your own prison cell – oh joy.

  15. Well , we all know that you haven’t reached Evil Super Villian status without an underground lair on an island someplace .
