9/11…

Today’s media pushes the idea it is time to ‘move on’ that 9/11 should become a part of our ‘history’ rather than continue to be kept at the forefront of people’s minds…

I lost two good friends in the Pentagon, Retired Captain Jack Punches and Captain Larry Getzfred. I served with and crossed paths with both these gentlemen from the 1970’s until 2001, along with AW1 Joe Pycior, who was a former P-3 acoustic operator.  I went to Arlington, and stood there remembering these guys like it was yesterday- How good they were with the sailors, how they worked throughout their careers to succeed in the Navy culminating in command tours. Jack had VR-24 in Sig and was well respected and remembered by his sailors, Larry had VP-40 and was very successful during the end of the cold war.

THIS was the reality of 9/11/2001

Not sugarcoated, apologized for, sanitized talking points, or spun by whomever.  We, the USA were attacked on our home soil by terrorists who are STILL determined to bring America to her knees, since we are the “Great Satan”…  Now, 23 years later, the terrorists are still after us, and the Taliban/al Queda are back in charge in Afghanistan…

Today, the politicians will horn in on the various memorials for the obligatory photo ops. They won’t speak, and will keep those who actually DID THE WORK out of the memorials.

On 9/12/2001, the firefighters and military hung this flag on the Pentagon in honor of those who died…

  1. Like they say if the Holocaust, Never Forget.

    I saw the second plane hit live on TV. I remember where I was then and will likely never forget.

    Anyone who wants us to “move on” from 9/11 wants us to forget so they can repeat it, culturally if not physically.

  2. I remember when people were asking themselves how could the terrorists have entered the USA without revealing themselves. Our current administration apparently did not learn this lesson, and invited everyone (including possible terrorists) into coming into our country anonymously without even checking if their stories why they came here is true.

    I hope I’m wrong, but I’m guessing 9/11 will be eclipsed by a worse catastrophe in the future. By terrorists who were invited here to stay as long as they want.

  3. RIP Capt DeConto , my former XO , who, sadly, also died at the pentagon on 9/11 . Never interacted much with him much as a junior nco , but he was very cool and a kind man , and a good XO by all accounts. I believe he was an LCDR , as my XO .

  4. And we have pro Hamass demonstrators shouting “Death to America.” Dems of course apologizing for them. Grrr!

  5. Never Forgive, Never Forget! indeed. I struggle to understand how we possibly morphed from a galvanized, united populous to where we are today. Nothing but spite for those who chant “Death to America” and those who support or condone them.

    • How? Because a certain political party worked actively to destroy any unification, culminating in the most racist president we had since Woodrow Wilson.

      If the Donks wanted to, they could have kept us united and allowed us to win and then get out when it was time. But no.

      • Also because the controllers of the deep state had the laws that were passed as the “Patriot Act” sitting on a shelf waiting for an opportunity to get it jammed through.

        There is no way that that evil mess could have been written between 9/11 and the date it was introduced.

  6. I was starting my drive to work in downtown Kansas City Missouri that day, turned on the local rock station, and heard an ABC news simulcast announcing that a second plane had just crashed into the other World Trade Center tower.

    I made it into work and someone had located and set up a television with rabbit ear antennas and had it tuned to the local news channel. A mid-level manager kept shutting the TV off and asking people to go back to work. Someone would turn the TV back on again within a few minutes, and people would gather and watch. Work wasn’t getting done that day; people were just too shaken.

    Eventually the company announced they were sending everyone home at 2 PM because by then, every airport in the USA and Canada had shut down, government offices were closed, and everyone was just waiting for another shoe to drop.

    I doubt any work was getting done anywhere, and from what I remember, the next 3 days of the work week, people just weren’t all that focused. Not surprising, everyone kept waiting for Bush to announce that the USA was now officialy at war with whoever did this and they were mentally spinning up for that possibility.

  7. CAPT Larry Getzfred was XO of my last VP squadron when I retired. He was a good man.
    Was in flight school with Jack Punches another real good man.
    Never Forget.

  8. What still eats at me is those hijackers learned how to fly at American flight schools and some of the people at those schools tried to alert the FBI.

    • The FBI (as they tell you time and time again) is America’s first line of defense against terrorism, and since they’ll also tell you that the biggest threat to America is white, Catholic male veterans – it goes without saying that they missed the Wahhabists.

  10. All- Thank you! And each of us remembers ‘different’ things… Boats, he was in the NCC too. David- I worked with Larry when he was CO of 40 and I was projects at CPWP.

    WSF- They trained in Oklahoma City and yes, were reported, but NOTHING was done!

  13. I gave the students the background, the 1993 attack, the 2001 attack, Madrid, 7/7 (London attack), and what’s happened since then. I also warned them that I’d probably get somewhat emotional. I didn’t. Much.

  14. The Pentagon will be “my” 9/11. Wasn’t in the building that morning; older son thought I was, took far too long to get word to him.
    Lost acquaintances, wife lost friends.
    Never forget, aye; NEVER FORGIVE.
