The infamous California Coastal Commission has their panties in a wad again…
Elon Musk’s tweets about the presidential election and spreading falsehoods about Hurricane Helene are endangering his ability to launch rockets off California’s central coast.
The California Coastal Commission on Thursday rejected the Air Force’s plan to give SpaceX permission to launch up to 50 rockets a year from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County.
“Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet,” Commissioner Gretchen Newsom said at the meeting in San Diego.

I’ve had ‘some’ experience with the CCC in the past, and it wasn’t fun. They ‘hate’ the military and anything to do with the Navy operating ‘anywhere’ off California…
And because they are appointed, they operate on feelz a lot… So if they feelz slighted by anyone not kowtowing to them, they tend to…react negatively. Mostly because they know no one in the California power structure is going to override them.
And as usual, they blame, in this case, the USAF for ‘not complying’ with their wishes…
Sigh…
I hope Elon sends his new robots to terminate them and rest of the Nuisance, er, Newsome regime.
Sounds like they are making bureaucratic decisions based on politics, which is expressly illegal…
Of course, being California they won’t be slapped down unless they make the “wrong” (conservative) decisions.
TOS- We should be so lucky!
Jon- You are correct. And nobody will slap them down as long as they ‘toe the line’…
Like Ellis Wyatt in Atlas Shrugged, Elon should do something dramatic with his remaining properties in California that will be remembered for decades. He should also leave behind the same sign with his last message to the California State government:
“I am leaving it as I found it. Take over. It’s yours.”
They need Musk a lot more than he needs them.
Anything below the hide-tide mark is federal property. That’s the law. California doesn’t have the right to say anything. They need to be ignored.
And yes, isn’t it funny how these commissions with the governor’s wife on them only care about politics?
State governments have NO control over Federal property. USAF base, Naval base, Marine Corps station….. nada. Air Force should tell them to pound sand and file a lawsuit if they care that much. Should take a few decades……
Unfortunately, that’s not accurate.
Even federal agencies have to follow state environmental laws if they are tighter than federal regulations – which they are in most liberal states; this is why base closings have been disproportionately in Liberal states since local laws put ridiculous limits on what the military can do.
However, it’s clear the CCC chose to fight this issue because they are understaffed and most coastal issues don’t make it to their level.
Last I knew Edwards was a U.S. Air Force Base, U.S. Government land of which the state of California has ZERO control. Having said that, it would take the eunuchs in the District of Crime to flip Gavin and company off but we know the deep state eunuchs do not have the tackle gear for that
Space launches are from Vandenberg Space Force Base (on the coast), not Edwards AFB (in the inland desert). That is where they test-fire ICBMs towards the Kwajalein target zone and what used to be the preferred launch site for polar orbits. They send the vehicles south instead of east from Canaveral. Even when they extended the runway for Shuttle landings it was always a military base.
I think those were the folks blocking any attempt at desalination in California.
He should buy an island outside the U.S. limit, tell them to kiss his ass, and light his candles there.
Would be great if he could set up independent of the US. Unfortunately, he runs into a number of limitations in the form of export bans: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) are the first that come to mind. On top of that, he and many in the company almost certainly have briefings for sensitive subjects for some of the launches, and you don’t just up and leave when you have that knowledge.
OTOH, the thought of him and his teams giving Californicated, the tree huggers, and
Lefties in general the big FOAD would be very gratifying
All- Y’all are correct, but the gutted military won’t say s**t with a mouthful under this administration, and we all know that. Tuvela, you are correct!
Hmm…
What I hear in this is that the Democrats are still emotionally invested in their hopes for November, that they also have fears, and the main tools they are finding at hand are heavy handed, and petty.
I don’t know what it really means.
How many armored divisions does the CCC command? Asking for a friend.
It’s not the ground or water. They also run roughshod by means of the county or regional Air Quality Boards. Any bit of visible smoke off the reservation boundary and they descend with the Clean Air Act and its CA straightjacket version.
It is water too. Desalination plants have been rejected because the brine immediately outside the outflow pipes *might* harm some sealife before it is diluted to ambient, OR! the hypothetical case that some unspecified ‘endangered’ critter might get caught in the the inflow and die against the screens and filters that keep organics out of the plant.
