And this mess will be done…
Except for the lawsuits we all know are coming…
Sam, over at Ammo.com sent an interesting little report about guns and gun ownership in the US.
Report Highlights:
- According to the most recent estimates, the United States has between 400 million and 500 million civilian-owned firearms.
- There are 1.93 firearms for every adult in the U.S. and 1.5 for every American citizen, including children.
- In 2022, there were 22 million people with concealed carry permits.
- 46% of American households—approximately 65.19 million—contain at least one firearm.
- Since 1899, at least 494,060,285 firearms have been manufactured in the U.S.

Now I will grant you that ‘some’ folks have more than 2 guns. Some folks have a lot more.
Now the ammunition numbers are even more nebulous, with some claiming over one TRILLION rounds of ammo in the US alone. While that may seem like a lot, if 500 million guns have an average of 15 rounds per, that’s 1.5 BILLION rounds alone.
With 22 million CCP’s we’ve come a long way since Georgia in 1976. I got my first CCP in 1987 in Florida. And I remember an article in the WAPO back in the late 90s when a criminal was interviewed about robberies, and his ‘preferences’ were DC (no carry, very little ownership), MD (no issue), and he stayed out of VA (shall issue) “Because he didn’t want to get shot!” And the FBI statistics proved that out with homicides and violent crimes against people.
The other thing you STILL hear is anytime there is a change or loosening of concealed carry, or permitless carry from the left and MSM is the “There will be blood in the streets!” calls/headlines.
Funny how that doesn’t seem to ever happen…
The continual attempts to crack down on weapons, bans, etc. have turned many gun owners into scofflaws, as witnessed by the ‘compliance’ with the NY Safe Act, and Connecticut registration laws where the compliance is guessed to be around 10%.
One thing that does bother me is that few folks actually go practice with their weapons. They are not magic wands that will keep you safe if you don’t know how to actually use them, and keep them clean!
Kicking the soapbox back in the corner now…
When ABC news “mistakenly” releases the results of the upcoming election in Pennsylvania.
[D] Harris 52% 3,293,712
[R] Trump 47% 2,997,793
100% reporting
They claim it’s just “randomly generated” data. Uh huh. Pull the other one, it plays “Jingle Bells”.
The fix is most definitely in.

If I were to run a test card, I’d make the numbers clearly nonsensical so as to be obvious that it is not actual data.
Either to reassure the voters if it was accidentally released that it was a test or (if I were intending to cheat) to not tip my hand that it is rigged if accidentally released.
So I think its stupid people who do intend to cheat.
“Six more days and this mess will be done.”
When, in the period between elections, do your politicians, parties, PACs, and news media give you a break from “election cycle” related stuff?
You should not be taking a break.
The six months leading up to an election is too late to start campaigning for electoral reform or judicial reform. (If you really believe that reform is needed and you aren’t merely peeved that the other crowd was better at rigging things than your crowd.)
…… and asking yourself what kind of system requires you to choose between Clinton, Rump, Biden, Trump, Harris and Trump. If the Republicans lose this one, you should be asking yourself why the GOP didn’t put up an electable candidate.
As an outsider, I’m looking at the last four years and thinking Harris shouldn’t even be close….. and election-fraud is only plausible in close elections.
“…and election-fraud is only plausible in close elections.”
I’m thinking that you didn’t really pay attention to all the shenanigans that were reported about the 2020 election. 20% voting above the listed numbers of votors in not what I would call a close election.
Every election since 1994 I’ve encouraged firearms owners to vote their guns. Electing pro firearms officials is the most important thing we can do at all levels of government. I don’t care if the candidate is a boorish lout, gay, or a closet vampire; where they stand now and have stood in the past is what I’m looking for.
Being pro-gun should be considered a litmus test for politicians and other gov connected types.
I have fireworks and firearms for Nov 6th.
I wonder which will be appropriate.
Yes.
Very good point about people who acquire a gun as a home protection talisman, with what “practice” having been put in as a one-and-done task that was more like a test fire of the weapon and no kind of muscle memory building exercise. The weapon then remains, partially or mostly cleaned and probably drowned in oil, in its original box on a closet shelf, or gathering dust under a bed. Worse are the clever-by-half storage locations that are either impractical to access, excessively humid, or forgotten. The forgotten part either leaves the weapon useless in a moment of need or may cause the rare, weird story that anti-gunners crave – an accident where someone else didn’t know a loaded gun was in a “clever” storage location like the warming tray of an oven, or loose ammunition stored in a tackle box. Then they come after the rest of us with “safe storage” laws and trigger lock laws…
All- Interesting points… Cranston, I was offered an old Colt that had an ‘interesting’ pattern covering it. When I asked the old gent selling it, he said his mother had it in her underwear drawer wrapped in a pair of bloomers for 40 years… sigh
Have to admire Mom’s spirit, if not her choices. Practice, Mom, practice.
LOL (Little Old Lady) when questioned on the witness stand why she shot the bad guy six times.
“Because the seventh one went “click””.
I heard a similar anecdote about the shooting death of a home invader.
“Mr Defendant, why did you shoot the KnownBadGuy in the head? Why didn’t you shoot to wound?”
“I shot him in the head because all I wanted to do was stop him from harming me or my family and the four shots in his chest hadn’t stopped him yet.”
As far as I am aware, at no point is it considered legal to “shoot to wound” in the US. Using lethal force in a situation that YOU have decided is not that serious is rated as a felony charge. A judge may decide otherwise, of course.
“And this mess will be done…” From your keyboard to God’s eyes. My gut tells me the party may just be getting started–

I’m with Ed B.
He shouldn’t have been wearing his MAGA hat at a polling station. That is considered electioneering. He should have left, taken it off and come back rather than arguing with them. And what they did was just a bit worse by blocking him from voting. I did notice the “offended” were all POCs, figures.
Bullshit. Lots of folks wear t-shirts or hats with logos on them that could be considered “Electioneering”.
If you take your theory far enough, on could not wear red or blue to a polling place.
Symbols and their meanings are in the eye of the beholder.
How many guns and how much ammo is out there is a question that can likely never be answered accurately. And it’s really not all that relevant if the people with the guns won’t use them to keep the left from destroying freedom. And so far the left has been able to operate with impunity.
Only 1.93 and 1.5? Heheheheheh
Speaking from Australia……. “Hehehehe” indeed.
When things got particularly malignant here in 1996 and the Great Gun Grab was set in motion, they voted the funds for it to compensate for the number of guns in the country according to recorded imports.
Not one State recorded enough hand-ins to meet those numbers, and a great many of those that were handed in were old pieces that the current generation had no use for. Rimfires and shotguns that Grandad use to own.
Scofflaws is an old term, but rather appropriate.
All- Thanks, and good points. Peter- Yep! 🙂
“…the ‘compliance’ with the NY Safe Act, and Connecticut registration laws where the compliance is guessed to be around 10%.
They always seem to officially “guess” at the 10% level, I suspect to at least get the number to double digits. None of the US bans and registrations have actually hit that level of response, according to the various .govs and gun owners themselves.
I thought the latest estimate for gun numbers, by actual gun people, was running in the 600m to 900m spread. Up until the ’68 gun control act, soldiers and others were not really restricted in what they could mail home to mom and dad. Even in the middle east wars, soldiers were still trying to ship home souvenirs.
In the business, my bunch was responsible for well over a billion primers. That was 25 years ago. Qualified on every weapon up to flame thrower in the service, never felt the need to have one at home
