Yesterday we had a real ‘oddity’…

David Jackson / FOX 26 Houston

Snow down on the Gulf coast from Texas to Florida.

Photos and videos from beaches along the Gulf Coast showed a rare and stunning sight Tuesday: snow.

In Galveston, video from Galveston.com showed snow blanketing the beach, concealing the sand underneath. Waves crashed in the distance, with dark, gloomy skies behind them.

States from Texas to the Carolinas are experiencing a once-in-a-generation snowstorm this week. It has already resulted in a Blizzard Warning being issued in Louisiana for the first time ever.

More visuals from Galveston showed the snow-covered beach, a sharp contrast to the usually green, sunny landscape. Reports from the National Weather Service indicate the area has received about 1-3 inches of snow.

Article and video HERE from Fox News.

This is what happens when the Jet Stream really dips deep into the south! You get extreme cold mixing with warm moist air over the Gulf…

Ironically, we had blue skies, and COLD temps (for us), it was 10 degrees yesterday morning, but no moisture at all. It finally got to freezing late yesterday afternoon, with a high of 32.

Today it’s supposed to be in the 50s and 60s by the weekend!

It’s winter, what can you say???

I know a lot of y’all are laughing at us, and that’s fine, but I don’t envy those of you that are in the negative numbers, and all I can say is STAY WARM!

  1. It’s supposed to improve here soon as well. Yesterday’s low was -6 but we are supposed to have warmer soon.

  2. Climate change! Climate change! 🙂

We got about 2″ in Raleigh, and it looks like about the same in Wilmington, maybe a bit more. The Outer Banks got about double that? And of course, people are freaking out – I plan to stay off the roads today! It’s relatively cold here as well – 18 last night, high of 32 today

  3. Overnight low was -6 here in Southwest Ohio. Brrrr.

    • Adding insult to injury, just got off a call with a colleague in Calgary, where the high today will be 34 F. About the same as along much of the coast of the Gulf of America.

  4. Meanwhile here in the western Great Basin we are having one of the mildest winters so far that I’ve seen in more than 3 decades.

  5. Here in the Frozen North… it’s been Seriously Cold. And rather dry. So far. Sure, I don’t have to shovel cold. But a little moisture over time would nice. Last year it seemed as if Spring was “Oh, all that water you didn’t get? Have it ALL…. *right now*.”

  6. FWIW, I’m not laughing, Old NFO. Y’all aren’t used to that kind of cold, and it’s hard to deal with. We don’t get COLD cold here in Middle TN, but it’s been a little rough lately.
Hang in there & stay toasty!

  7. It’s “weather change” all right, but it isn’t normal reality, it’s manufactured, by (((them))). Weather control isn’t iffy, it’s established science. You don’t know about it, because you’re not allowed to.

  8. TB- Trying!!!

Tree- LOL, anybody that thinks ‘they’ control the weather need their meds checked…

  9. Oak Ridge, TN 6F last night. High today 25F.
B-in-law lives 20 miles south of Tallahassee got a dusting.
Coldest he’s been (in USA) since he left Ohio.

  10. Copper Basin Alaska is having weird weather too. A couple weeks ago we went from -37 to +37 in less than 48 hours. We are light in snow at my place (it can vary over a few miles because of the mountains). Freezing rain two week ends in a row and it hasn’t been below about 15 since the warm up! The -30 is more normal for January for us! The jet stream dragging cold to you drags warm Pacific air to us to fill the void left by the cold leaving!

  11. I feel sorry for cold climate vacationers who went to Florida. It’s been in the 20s in PA, but that’s to be expected in January.
