Well, GEN C.Q. Brown is gone, and looks like ADM Lisa Franchetti is next.
President Donald Trump on Friday night nominated Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“General Caine is an accomplished pilot, national security expert, successful entrepreneur, and a ‘warfighter’ with significant interagency and special operations experience,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social announcing the nomination.
Trump said during his first term, the three-star lieutenant general was “instrumental” in the “complete annihilation” of the ISIS caliphate.
Trump said despite Caine “being highly qualified and respected,” he was “passed over for promotion by Sleepy Joe Biden.”
“But not anymore! Alongside Secretary Pete Hegseth, General Caine and our military will restore peace through strength, put America First, and rebuild our military,” Trump wrote. “Finally, I have also directed Secretary Hegseth to solicit nominations for five additional high level positions, which will be announced soon.”

There have been a number of questions over the nomination of Brown, but his nomination ‘seemed’ to hinge on his buy in to the DEI philosophy put forward by the Biden administration. He pushed that and the race agenda in his speeches, and the changes he’d made as the Chief of Staff for the Air Force, including curriculum changes at the Air Force Academy.
Franchetti was also a puzzler, as a lot of folks I knew thought Kilby would have been named as the next CNO. We wondered if she was one of Biden’s ‘checks in the block’ of putting a woman in a power position (nothing against her or her career).
Anyhoo, there are definitely changes afoot at DOD, with a new focus and new leadership is one step in that process. The other thing that needs to be done is to weed out those who cling to power or rank as their ‘due’ rather than committing to the revised goals and impetus on the warfighter, rather than the political infighting in DC.
The other thing I’m wondering about is what will happen with the Marine ‘Vision 2030’ plan. The few Marines I talked to hated the idea of losing their tanks and possibly their heavy artillery.
So where does that leave all those whose careers were advances because of DEI? Will they get passed over by the next selection boards?
Very unusual for a 3-star to be raised to CJCS. A report I read said ALL the current chiefs have been fired.
Gerry- I ‘think’ they will be invited to retire.
Mike- True, but not the first time.
It’s a start!
