Oopsie…

Seems I missed my blogiversary… I blame it on my back and drugs… Dammit…

18 years ago I started with this post on May 7, 2007.

I’m new to this whole arena, but thought I’d give it a try. I guess I fall in the “silent majority” as we have been deemed, I’ve never sought publicity, sued anyone for spilling my coffee, sure as hell ain’t a movie star; well, you get the drift…

I’m mid-50’s have a decent job, two decent kids trying hard to make their own way in the world today, and a lot of frustration with what is happening to the US of A. Being from the South, I hunt, fish, and shoot guns; so that immediately makes me one of those “rabid rednecks” to quote some out there. I did have a pickup, but it’s hard to park it where I work, so I drive a Pontiac… sure do miss the truck though… sigh…

As a retired military type, it really hurts to see the crap we are putting the folks in service through today. I lived through that in Vietnam, and I take the time to thank every Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine for their service when I get the chance. Most of the kids (I’m Southern so I can say that) are doing the best they can with what they have. They believe in the job they and others are doing in the Sandbox, and are pretty upset by the media coverage they get.

Anyway, I’m going to try this for a while and see what happens… thanks for reading and commenting…

  1. Happy Anniversary Mr. Curtis. A long time to write thoughts down for the rest of us to ponder and learn from.

  2. Yay!

My part is to read and make intelligent comments.
    Well, mostly intelligent.
Your part is very much more difficult.

Thank you for all that you do.

  3. I am glad I found your blog . You open discussion into things I think about , and into things I know nothing about wherein I learn . Your southern and your Navy , me too . My best mentors in the Navy were mustangs , LDO’s Warrant Officers all reaching retirement or hanging in there from the Vietnam era . I bet you were a good Officer , hard when you had to be , appreciative of your subordinates , and proud of any job done well. An all around “good sumbitch” – Texas.

I don’t know a dern thing about writing books , but…, I still read about it here and it is really cool too .

I’ll say it again , I love your blog and thanks for your efforts in putting it together . Congrats on the Anniversary!!

  4. Hey Old NFO,

Yeah, you started it…its YOUR fault…YOU…yeah YOU!, You got me blogging, I ran across you back in 2010ish? and I started blogging in 2011…so I tell everyone that it’s your fault that I have been foisted in the blogging world, LOL. Seriously though, I call you *The Godfather*, you KNOW everyone! Mack and I give you hell about you and the 1911( I own one so I can’t squawk too much). Seriously though, I am glad you are blogging and because of your blogging I have met a lot of of good people.

  5. Don’t blame it on your back and drugs, as Eydie Gormé once said, blame it on the bossa nova with its magic spell.
Anyhow, I have enjoyed the blog and hope to be reading it for some time.

  6. Congrats and thanks for ALL your services!

I was living shina, Chengdu, when G-d gifted with with a link from ( feral irishman I think.) around late ‘08 early ‘09.
except when you are dealing with health or travel days, you’ve a daily read ever since.

I don’t really know details other than you are younger than I, now live too close to Ok for me, and must not be borm nd raised in Texas, coz you still claim to be a Southerner!
I wonder if somewhere back yonder a ways, we may be a little related even.
I read your comments at WWM, and a few others. Never bought an ebook/audiobook. I don’t do the not amazing shop, but if you write your biography, I think I’d find a way buy it.

    Mind your health well sir.

  7. Eh. We’re all actually here for each other. You post?

    🙂 🙂 🙂

Is it even legal to congratulate one who forgets his own anniversary?!!!!

  8. Congratulations on the (somewhat belated) blogiversary. I raise a glass of bourbon in your direction. It’s your fault I have met so many interesting people, which has led me to become a writer. 😁

  9. “I blame it on my back and drugs..” Couldn’t have anything to do with the creeping Alzheimer’s we share, could it??
Congrats, sir – as one of the VERY few internet denizens I read every day, I appreciate the conversations and viewpoints. And FWIW, I am always impressed by your ability to spin a yarn about cowboys, grey men, sci-fi adventures, whatever.
May you be able to keep at it for many more years, should you choose to do so!

  10. Yours was one of the first blogs I started reading. I’ve also bought the Grey Man series. Sorry, I don’t enjoy sci-fi. Hope you keep going with all your work.

  11. Yours was one of the first ones I tapped from Feral Irishman. Glad to read the input from another old GI. I was Army and Air Force, but don’t hold that against me. I, too, was disgusted by the social engineering being foisted on the military. I did my best to disrupt the “awareness classes”, usually with questions like “Well, just how DO you define ‘any reasonable person’?” That usually set off a very lively debate. Keep up the writing. I am especially fond of your Science Fiction. Too much of late has gotten bogged down in woke, Glo-bull Warming, socialist messaging. Happy Blog-iversary, with many more to follow!

  12. All- Thank you very much! I truly appreciate the comments, and the discussions we’ve had on here. Juan- I was actually born and raised in Louisiana, then Arkansas for HS. But a lot of family in Texas 🙂

    • Thanks for the details Sir.
You could do a Lot worse than live in those 3 states!

Been all over La, mostly south of I10.
      In laws all around Lafayette.
Not a lot of time in Ar.
But fine memories of Ouachita (sp), the diamond state park, and canoeing near Ouachita ( White? Buffalo? old age strikes).

      Anyway,
I hope you get to double your time online.

  13. Belated Happy Blog-aversary. It’s been a pleasure to read your rants and those of the followers here.
An additional thanks for your support when my Father passed away, and it was a pleasure to meet you in-person long ago (at an NRA annual meeting, the infamous “move out of DC” party, and maybe a Blog-shoot in WV).
Please keep up the good work, it is well-appreciated!

    • Open invitation to visit: remember that plane on a stick picture I sent about six years ago? I’m still working on the base, in a newer facility. Vault. Lots of simulators.
