Done!!!

Met with the back surgeon yesterday for my 5 week post op exam. After poking and prodding me, he said, “You’re cleared to resume normal activities.”

Yay!!!

But he wants me to continue PT for at least another month, and limit the amount of weight I lift.

That won’t be hard, considering how out of shape I am! Geez… PT yesterday afternoon kicked my butt, and I never got over 40 lbs on an exercise! The amount of muscle I lost both in my back and arms, along with the lack of flexibility is almost scary after just 6 months of not being able to do anything. And that is probably why I keep popping a rib head out of place…sigh

One of the hardest things is to try to get flexibility back! Those twisting exercises SUCK!!!

Anyhoo, off all drugs, so I’m actually able to write a little bit again, and I’m okay to travel now. But his last words as I walked out were, “And don’t do anything stupid.”

Moi, do stupid? Sigh… Shaddap out there… 🙂

  1. Honest, officer! I was sitting over there in the Christian Science reading room minding my own business when all of a sudden…

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  2. Glad to hear your mending is proceeding. I agree – regaining flexibility is not easy to accomplish. Backing out of parking spaces, I can turn to the right easier than turning to the left.

No injuries cited – just getting older did that. :^)

  3. That final command is going to be a tough one.
You know what you need to do. Don’t need any blather from me.
Hang in there and push till it hurts…. but not too much?

  4. NFO, are you suggesting we in the peanut gallery might offer “critique” for daily endeavors? Didn’t know that was allowed. 😉

    Heh

  5. Hey Old NFO,
Us, your faithful peanut gallery, not make snarky comments?…catcalls or other derogatory comments….Us…Never…we are as pure as the driven snow…..in New york…on trash day…

    Seriously, get better

  6. Glad to hear the back is improving. At our age, all we can do is try to keep the stupid to a minimum…

  7. One of the joys of getting older is all the surgeries that seem to be needed.

  8. “I already did the stupid, twenty years ago. That’s why I’m here!”

    —Overheard in a waiting room.

  9. spraking of “male”-

I just saw you and THE She Devil over at LL’s place.
I was gonna post it here, but I don’t have any clearance anymore. And never had it from here.
Perhaps it’ll help WSF better understand your daring swagger.
But maybe he has seen it by now also.

Anyway, 👍🏻 to you for the honor!

    Juan

  10. Great to hear – and yes, loss of both muscle mass and flexibility is a thing as we age. My still-young brain keeps asking why I can’t touch my shoulders to my knees while standing!!

  11. All- Thanks for the support… I think… 😉

Matt- Compression fracture, sheared off the top of the vertebrae. They did a ‘spine jack’ repair.

Juan- LOL, that brings back good memories! Other than LA traffic… Grrrr…

  12. Physical therapy…does it work…um…yeah…
Does it hurt…yes, yes it does…
    Exercises…also known as Physical therapy…am I a fan? No, no, I’m not…I didn’t get that gene…my sister did.
But, do I do them? Sigh. Yes, yes I do…cause they DO work…and when I do them, I don’t feel quite so creaky and OLD. Cause I refuse to feel old. Darn it.
Besides, when I am good and do them consistently, I don’t have pain. Really don’t like having pain. Darn it.

  13. Glad you’re getting better! If you want more realistic PT, c’mon out to Northern Nevada and you can sling hay bales.
Love the pic of you and the She Devil that LL posted.

  14. Happy news indeed!

Glad to hear you’re just about mended. As much as it sucks, keep with the PT as much as you can.

  15. “Don’t do anything stupid.” Good advice. Way back in the day, as a tree service owner, operator, sometimes a guy would get this advice from me, “Every chance you get, DON”T PHUQUE UP!” It worked surprisingly well.

  16. VERY Glad to hear you are off the dope and any other meds!

It’s a long road back for us old buzzards, keep after it though!

Hardest part will be not doing stupid.
