And another oopsie for Commiefornia, as if they didn’t believe what happened in Seattle…
California’s new $20-per-hour minimum wage for fast food workers has resulted in a significant decline in employment in that sector, leading to 18,000 fewer jobs than would have been the case otherwise.
Full article, HERE from Breitbart.
Granted that is a drop in the bucket for them, but a LOT of those are/were entry level jobs for teenagers and those just starting in the workforce.
Where do they go now?
Or do they just stay home and live in their parent’s basements???
And did they NOT learn anything from what happened in Seattle with the loss of jobs/closures of small restaurants/fast food franchises??? Link HERE, and what I find interesting is that apparently Kings Co. doesn’t ‘track’ employment… strange…
The other thing lots of folks, not just on the left coast, but across the country are seeing is more kiosks in place of live workers…
For or against??? Personally, I don’t care for them, as I like to pay cash rather than use a credit card in those places…
This time they”ll get it right.
It’s always been done right. It’s the expectations of the lower class that were in error.
I figured raising minimum wage was only going to cause less employment. Business owners see the bottom line and if they are losing $$, they do everything they can to save. I was in a Burger King where two (2!) employees were handling the cooking – counter – drive thru. Slow service – yeah but it wasn’t their fault. They were hustling the best they could under the circumstances.
I don’t deal with kiosks, as technology and I don’t often relate. I’m a Luddite – no credit cards nor even any type of cell phone so if I have to use only a kiosk – I change restaurants. Somebody somewhere is willing to take $$$.
X2
As a native Californian born in the late 50s but left with my family in 96 I hate to see what is happening to the state. Me and my wife’s parents are dead and so are our aunts and uncles. We still have some family and friends through out the state. Many have left for other states.
This minimum wage issue will kill most small business that does not hire illegals. Trump going after illegals and the business owners will kill the business. It is a no win for the state, county, and city.
Most large business is leaving California as costs are too high. So except for service business like Auto Dealers tied to main companies, HVAC, or similar that pay their people well over $20/Hr there will be a mass destruction of business.
Some of the thinking was that the Seattle experiment saw the jobs move just across the line into nearby counties. Their argument was that there was no loss of jobs, just a loss of tax revenue.
California thought “let’s do it for the whole state. That way business owners cannot avoid the regulation by moving five miles.”
My expectation is that the large cities doing stupid things will be pressuring the Feds to enact those regs nationwide so those “greedy business owners” cannot move away to avoid the stupidity.
In 1968, the minimum wage was $1.60. If it had kept up with inflation, the minimum wage should now be $32.58.
After 1980, the government changed the way they computed inflation and the CPI several times to artificially lower them.

Most kiosk systems let you pay with cash at the counter; I’ve only seen a few that don’t.
If places won’t take cash, I tell them that I’m taking my business elsewhere unless I have no options.
The thing with kiosks and electronic menus is that it is easy for them to change prices – I was in a fast food place last year that usually takes counter orders; that franchise said they were too busy and that I had to use the kiosk – I noticed that the kiosk had higher prices than the posted menu. That’s a nasty trick!
That’s also illegal under Federal law. They have to sell at the posted price. I’ve gotten the occasional great deal at retail stores where they posted the wrong price or the sale price was still up after the sale ended.

Only for fast food? Doesn’t seem very egalitarian/Democratic.
I hate trying to navigate the kiosk when talking to human being they do the navigation for you. You can ask questions about what sandwich has what or customize.
All- Thanks for the comments, and good points!
Let me think about this for all of two seconds: Touch a kiosk that everyone else has touched right before I’m going to grab my order and sit down to eat. No thanks. Once or twice a year being sick is enough for me.
My wife and I had a small Bakery and Cafe, we noted early on that the price of a sandwich had to be equal to the minimum wage. If it wasn’t we lost money.
Ag- Yeah, that too!
Bob- Noted! Just like a chicken fried steak!
It’s not just that. The illegal aliens in California sucked up all of the jobs that teenagers used to do. Then they took up the bottom-feeder construction jobs like dry-walling that were entry-level for that industry. Then they started painting homes and businesses, industrial cleaning and on-and on. When you combine the loss of traditional teen jobs and the other jobs that Americans once did, they wiped out entire sectors by undercutting Americans.
Then you have turds like Hunter Biden and Nancy Pelosi who openly lament the loss of slaves that were sent south by the Trump Administration.
