Huh…

I didn’t expect somebody to stand up to ABC/Disney…

Sinclair Broadcast Group announced Monday that it would preempt ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” when it returns Tuesday night.

“Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” the company’s statement read.

Sinclair, which operates 30 ABC affiliates, previously joined Nexstar, another owner of ABC affiliates, in preempting Kimmel’s show last week after he made controversial comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin.

Full article, HERE from Fox News.

I found it interesting that Sinclair also made this statement- “Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”

Italics mine… It’s interesting that suddenly there are concerns about ‘standards’…

Since there is definitely a lack of standards apparent with ‘some’ of the programs on TV today, according to friends. I don’t watch much other than news programs and some sports stuff, and haven’t for years.

I also wonder whether or not Nexstar, the other syndicator will put Kimmel back on, as they apparently haven’t said anything one way or the other.

According to some folks that have looked into it, Kimmel is another one that is not making money for Disney/ABC.  What will be interesting is which advertisers will come back. After all, for Disney/ABC it is all about the bottom line $$$.

Or is this a ‘play’ by Disney/ABC for sympathy???

I dunno… sigh

  1. Disney observably doesn’t care all that much about money. Leftist virtue signaling and pushing the narrative as hard as possible is much more important and valuable to the executives.

    • Ironically, socialists, communists, leftists (redundant, I know) who are all anti-capitalists and free everything for all, get really mad when they are loosing their own money. I suspect that Disney/ABC was reacting to the ranting of the dems about “first amendment rights” and will quietly dump Mr. Kimmel after the dust from the Charlie Kirk assassination settles.

  2. I don’t watch network news. I don’t watch cable news. I haven’t watched any late night show since Leno. Don’t care one $#!% for any of those morons. I don’t willingly or knowingly send money to Disney or ABC or any of those organizations. May they rot.

  3. Jimmy Kimmel is going back on the air. ABC owner Disney today (Monday) issued a statement saying that Jimmy Kimmel Live will return on Tuesday.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” Disney said in a statement today. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

So I guess it remains to be seen what the affiliates will do tonight.

  4. It is a bunch of feuding parties with mental models of various actors.

The first move was to fire Kimmel after he refused to apologize, because these sorts of executives are used to issuing an apology.

Then they apologized for firing him by reinstating him.

This is a step on the path of the dispute playing out.

In general, the professional managerial class is pretty nuts now, and crappy anime light novels are more productive than trying to explain PMC actions. The universities have established that they have no more effective defense of their human behavior predictions than killing a dude for saying what we all think, but it is more than just that. There are apparently like three bubbles around AI now; asset, investment, and hype. It is not simply the explicitly political elements of the behavior modeling, it is also the ‘connected through economics’ bits of the technology modeling.

  5. How long before they pre-empt the View too, regardless of how many drug ads they sell during the time slot?

Replacing that show with 60 minutes of the old Indian Chief test pattern would be a huge improvement.

  6. I do not know what, exactly IS happening or what WILL happen… but it seems we have the the “joy” (mostly **OY**) of living through a possible Inflection Point of History. No idea of what, for sure, is on the other side… other than… past is PRELUDE and the prelude is ending…

  7. Since I haven’t owned a TV for several years, I don’t care. What is interesting is RFK Jr floating the idea of banning pharmaceutical advertising on television. Imagine the s**t storm that will cause.

    This was done with tobacco.

  8. Disney seems more driven by keeping their staff happy rather than what their customer wants. If Sinclair and Nexstar remove Kimmel it means an automatic 39% drop in potential ABC viewers. That would also translate into a drop in advertising potential market. Just plain stupid IMHO.

Saying that I don’t have to put up with the pouting, immature and churlish workforce that ABC employes. I would start shit canning folks but then I am a cruel old dude who does not feel their pain.

  9. All- You DO raise some interesting points. Thanks! The bottom line is always follow the money. Even the left lives and dies with $$$

  10. As I understand, all Kimmel has to do is apologize for the comments and contribute to TPUSA and Sinclair will take him back.
    Bye.

  11. Chris- Saw that earlier, thanks!

    Ed- Yeah, I don’t see that happening…

  12. We haven’t watched “Network TV” for at least a decade. That includes all the standard “news” networks, including Fox. I may occasionally watch the local news, just long enough to get the weather report.

Other than an occasional sports event (college football, mostly) We don’t care to watch any of it.

I’m happy to watch all of it wither on the vine,
