Accelerating their ‘long game’…

TOKYO — The top U.S. admiral on Monday called China’s shipbuilding capability “impressive” as Beijing moves ahead with a rapid buildup of the world’s largest navy, and said America’s cooperation with Asian allies South Korea and Japan is essential for its own shipbuilding capability.

“How they utilize those aircraft carriers globally is, of course, a concern of mine,” Adm. Daryl Caudle said in Japan, part of his 10-day tour of the Asia-Pacific.

“We watch that very closely and see what they’re going to do there,” Caudle said of the amphibious assault ship. “That’s a large ship, very capable.”

Full article, HERE from Defense News.

ADM Caudle knows what he is looking at, having been both COMSUBRON 3 (Pearl Harbor) and COMSUBRON 11 (Point Loma), and the Chief of Staff and later Commander, Submarine Force Pacific. While that was submarine specific operations, the need to be ‘aware’ of bigger picture.

Plus years of experience in the Pacific theater makes him the right man in the right place at the right time.

Now the question is, will he get the support he needs from Congress? I have no idea…

Sigh…

  1. I thought the Chief Bubblehead would see the Chinese capital ships as targets

  2. Except that, like many of China’s Hero Projects, their shipbuilding is often more ‘tofu dreg’ than quality. Two of their carriers are having major problems related to material and construction quality. They’ve had subs and surface ships sink in port due to poor quality and many have been jailed or executed over it, but the grift and graft continues.

Yes, they have the hulls. They can’t effectively wield them nor man them.

    • As of now, there are 11 active Avenger-class mine countermeasures ships in service with the U.S. Navy, with 8 of these ships currently forward-deployed. The Avenger-class ships were constructed between 1987 and 1994 and are designed to clear mines from vital waterways.

Our ability to deal with this really cheap, low tech weapons system is pretty poor. The US Navy TRIED to make Anti-mine Modules for the crappy little ships but they seem to be falling apart when driven hard in heavy seas.

Our ability to reload vertical tube launch anti-ship-aircraft and missile missiles at sea is essentially zero (ONE example of a prototype tested last year. THAT’s why the US Navy had to withdraw from the pitiful Hothi’s twice in the past few years.

They ran out of defensive missiles and the real risk of having an expensive BLACK EYE of a lost American Carrier or Agis warship destroyed….

Our resupply shipping is near zero as we had to use chartered civilian freighters to resupply the Hothi “mission”.

Our repair ships status poor at best:

Not sure we are quite as awesome compared to China’s “Tofu dreg” fleet as they have but to defend their area and somehow, WE are policemen for the whole world.

  3. Japanese Navy , visited one of their ships in Pearl Harbor , clean , clean, clean as a pin . They had a bucket and scrub brush at the foot of the brow on the pier , the crew took off their shoes and cleaned them and walked up and boarded in socks of bare feet. Never seen a ship so damned clean EVER !!!
