I’m late…

I’m late…

Getting everything thawed out for Thanksgiving!

At least the turkey is almost thawed, but I forgot to take the DDTs out until last night. Hopefully, everything will come together by the time folks start showing up!

We’re doing the usual ‘orphan’s Thanksgiving’ with the group, plus a few other guests, relatives, etc. And folks are pitching in with various dishes, so we should have a great spread!

And I don’t think we’ll get any ‘strange’ foods… Learned ‘that’ particular lesson in the military. Jerk chicken is one thing, but jerk turkey??? Or fish dish(es) from our Dutch guest… Edible but DIFFERENT to put it mildly!

Oh yeah, and clean the house, count noses and chairs, and get platters, etc.

If you’re traveling, please be careful, and take your time. It’s not worth rushing just to be on time. Trust me, folks would much rather you be late, than not get there at all. And if you’re spending it with family, just don’t react to the crazy uncle… just sayin…

And get off the intarwebz and enjoy the family! We’ll still be here when you get back! Have a Happy Thanksgiving, wherever you are!!!

  1. Have an awesome Thanksgiving meal Mr. Curtis. Your point about traveling safely and avoiding future empty chairs is a good one. Take off early and if any road occurrences happen, they won’t affect the plan. And if someone makes comments you don’t particularly agree with, a smile isn’t inappropriate. In your mind, you can always picture them on fire … :^)

  2. DDTs?

Depending on what those are: Cold water thaw in the sink.

    Have a fantastic thanksgiving!

    • Drug Deal Tamales: The ones you buy out of the back of a Chebie while they are still warm from the kitchen.

      Yum.

      • Ah yes, those! I’ve heard about those on the Blanket Fort, but it’s been a while since I’ve been able to tune in so they weren’t at the forefront of my mind.

  3. Eating dinner at my friend the Thai Captains was an experience.
The “pigs ears” tasted (and chewed) just like you might expect.

  4. Y’all enjoy! Drive safe.

I wanna hear more about Dutch fish dishes.

Store-bought pre-cooked Thanksgiving meal with an out-of-state disabled client because the Generation-Whatevers don’t feel like showing up to work.

So, I’m thankful for: Interstate Rest Areas; holiday pay; better food than I would make; pleasant company, human and feline. And maybe some DDTs friday on the drive home.

  5. Driving safe, hah. My sister is driving from Colorado to Nevada. Too busy the past few days to get a new battery. O Dark 30 departure delayed because her battery was dead. Three hours later, she is on her way with a new battery. She should be at Rawlins as I type this.

  6. Wishing you and everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I’m making a Thanksgiving casserole with chicken this year – too much going on to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

    • Naah, there’s no reason someone would think that about you. Right?

      sarc/ chuckling

  7. Good thoughts to NFO and everyone for a pleasant turkey day.

    Salute.

  8. All- Thanks, now get off the intarwebz and enjoy the turkey or whatever you’re having!!! Oh yeah, the fish dish was Kibbeling… A Dutch version of an appetizer… more or less.

  9. Working tomorrow, dinner Saturday for just the two of us.
Have a good one all, wherever you and your are.
Stay safe. Won’t discuss what I’m thinking and feeling about news from DC today, but, keep your heads on swivels…

  10. Ours is paper plates, plastic tools to eat with and paper cups for the liquid. A small boneless Turkey, and other eats. No fuss no muss.
Know what key does not work in any lock?
    A Tur-key.

Merry Thanksgiving to all out there in the either.

  11. Have learned after 40+ years experience to remain out of the kitchen unless called upon to open recalcitrant jars or cans, while the wife unit is in Thanksgiving prep mode. Frenetic pace of operations is not a strong enough descriptor, maybe flight deck ops. in a hot war might come close 😉

Thanks for the wishes ONFO and may everyone have a good time with family and friends while mountains of food are made to vanish.
