Are coming home to roost… At least in the RGV…
Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley – the South Texas nonprofit long known for its migrant shelter run by Sister Norma Pimentel – has been suspended from receiving federal funds and now faces a rare six-year debarment after a Department of Homeland Security investigation found major grant violations, according to internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) documents shared exclusively with Fox News Digital.
The action, taken by FEMA on behalf of DHS on Nov. 19-20, follows months of warnings and data reviews that auditors say uncovered sweeping inaccuracies, large gaps in migrant records and significant billing outside federally allowed timeframes.
The suspension applies only to this South Texas affiliate, not to Catholic Charities USA or any other Catholic Charities chapters nationwide.

I know we’ve talked before about some of the sketchy things Catholic Charities seemed to be involved in, but this is the first time DHS has actually done a deep dive. Texas tried, and a judge shut it down in the last couple of years.
Yes, this may hurt some of the illegals coming across, but if the charity was actually billing as much as it was illegally, where did that money actually go???
Yes, she’s been praised by the Vatican, etc. etc., but that still doesn’t excuse the questionable business practices, nor the billing issues…
Maybe this is a crack in the ‘wall’ of NGO protection that most of them seemed to have against anyone trying to find out what was actually going on inside the charities…
How can these “Organizations” be called Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) when they rely on government funding for most if not all of their revenue? Why do liberals think these corrupt organizations are entitled to our money?
All the NGOs involved in flooding this country with unvetted third worlders should be disbanded and the grifters that stole money from them, prosecuted.
One of 2 National Guard members shot in Washington DC. dies, second remains in critical condition.
20 year-old Army Socialist. Sarah Beckstrom, has died, President Trump said last night, while Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, was in critical condition after undergoing surgery, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Thursday. Mr. Trump said Wolfe was “fighting for his life.”. And this make me as Mad as Hell, and makes me wanted to see the Animal that was responsible for this getting the Worst Penalty that the law allows, and if it is the Death penalty =, then SO BE IT!
I was struck by a question asked by an American blog commenter a few years ago. Is anyone ever really “ex”-CIA?
Of course, that point of view can lead to loopy conspiracy theories. But I suspect it can also lead to well-founded conspiracy theories.
“Specialist” NOT “Socialist”!
Couple of points here. First, and most important, is that people are people, and any group which purports to do “good” — however defined — is going to have a few people in it who are at best misguided and sometimes flat out evil. Religious organisations are no exception to that — and sometimes are even more gullible for a variety of reasons which would take much too long to explain here!
Second, no, dearieme, first you never do come in from the cold completely. Second, just because an individual may have worked with this agency or that one does not mean they are trustworthy — we saw this particularly in Afghanistan. That requires more prose than needs to be here, too!
Musloids gonna musloid.
It’s a fact of life.
Being a job taxed entity NO part of the Catholic Church should be receiving ANY tax dollars. Ever. And anyone part of this entity who aided illegals entering the country belongs behind bars.
I’ll admit the situation deserves a hard look, but a couple of things stand out to me.
First, everything we’re reacting to here is based on Fox’s interpretation of internal DHS documents. Until FEMA or DHS releases the actual audit, we don’t know whether we’re talking about criminal fraud or the kind of administrative-compliance issues that show up in almost every fast-paced humanitarian program. Billing outside time windows or inconsistent data isn’t the same thing as embezzlement, and the article doesn’t show money “missing.”
Second, what I find interesting is the selective nature of this scrutiny. If the goal were simply good stewardship of federal dollars, we’d see the same intensity applied to the tens of billions in contracts and grants going to private detention companies and border contractors — many of which have far longer lists of violations. Instead, the hammer always seems to fall on the humanitarian side of the system.
Third, Texas already tried to shut down Catholic shelters and was blocked by a federal judge. So it’s fair to at least ask whether this is purely an accounting issue, or if NGOs that make the situation more humane are becoming politically inconvenient because they don’t reinforce the “border chaos” narrative certain folks are invested in.
If FEMA’s audit shows actual wrongdoing, then by all means hold the organization accountable. But we should be careful not to turn administrative findings into sweeping claims of criminal intent—especially when the only publicly available version of the story is filtered through a single outlet with a very strong political angle on immigration.
X2
All- Interesting takes on the situation. Yes, sadly Sarah Beckstrom died from her injuries. May she rest in peace. Re the reporting, this is NOT the first time Catholic Charities has been in the media for ‘sketchy’ procedures. Just sayin…
This is a good development. Any group attempting to help others should bear the entire burden of payment. Asking public taxes to reimburse those costs is illegal without a U.S. Congressional vote to allow this.
