Sigh…

The ocean IS unforgiving…

The Mexican Navy announced on Thursday that it has begun a search-and-rescue mission in the Caribbean Sea for two sailboats carrying “humanitarian aid” to Cuba.

Reuters describes the vessels as “sailboats” and says they left Isla Mujeres, in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, last week. They did not arrive in Havana as scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday. The journey is about 300 to 350 miles, depending on the route. Combined, the two boats had nine people on board, including eight adults and a four-year-old child.

Why oh why does this sound like Thunberg ver whatever???

And how much aid were they really carrying? I’m pretty sure it was probably less than 500 lbs combined, considering the pictures appear to be of two catamarans.

Oh yeah, and let’s not even talk about the pirates who just ‘love’ those types of idjits in those waters…

Where did they leave from on Isla Mujeres and where were they going to go??? Anybody??? Bueller???

I hope they are found in one piece… sigh…

  1. “The weather in the western Caribbean from March 22 to March 26, 2026, is expected to be characterized by fresh to locally strong NE winds south of Cuba and the Windward Passage, with moderate to rough seas developing offshore Colombia during this period.”

You might lose one boat, but no comms is troubling.

  2. Pirates! Those boats could easily carry a ton each and might be a tempting prize. Yachts like that usually carry an epirb and radio, so no word is really troubling.

  3. Ag- Spam…

Gerry/Ed- Yep, not good for ‘passage’ and no comms is NOT good!

Old Surfer- Yeah, if you gutted them, and concur on the lack of comms.

  4. @OldNFO: “Spam…” Yeah, I know, and I’m not even mad my annoyed/sarcastic reply to it got bit-bucketed when you deleted the original.

    Well done.
