Keep coming at CBS, with Bari Weiss revamping 60 Minutes this time…
In a bid to remake the country’s top-rated news program, Bari Weiss, the editor in chief of CBS News, on Thursday unveiled an overhaul of “60 Minutes,” replacing the show’s executive producer with a tech journalist and firing two of its on-air correspondents.
Ms. Weiss named Nick Bilton, a former New York Times technology columnist and a filmmaker who has directed and produced documentaries for HBO and Netflix, as her pick to lead the 58-year-old Sunday show. Mr. Bilton, who has never worked in traditional broadcast news, will replace Tanya Simon, who had been at the show for more than three decades.
CBS News also fired Cecilia Vega, the program’s first Latina correspondent, and Sharyn Alfonsi, whose segment on torture in Salvadoran prisons was pulled off the air abruptly last year by Ms. Weiss, who requested more reporting. It aired in full at a later date. Draggan Mihailovich, the executive editor of “60 Minutes,” was also fired, as was Matthew Polevoy, a senior producer.

The Times, in their ‘infinite’ wisdom, keep pushing the narrative that Weiss has no experience in television, but she does have actual news experience. Seems like she is bringing in people who also have actual experience…
I haven’t watched the show in years, and probably won’t watch the ‘new’ version either. But if you enjoy that stuff, feel free…
IMHO, the current show is a pale imitation of what it originally was, leaning more and more left, and more about politics than actual documentary reporting. Much the same way Meet the Press went from a hard hitting interview program under Lawrence Spivak to the pale shadow it is now (another show I no longer watch).
Most of those shows today are filled with talking heads, spouting whatever emailed talking points they and the interviewer got from their handler(s) that morning. And I’ve got better things to do than listen to that crap.
Anybody else remember Walter Cronkite?
“And that’s the way it is. Because we say so, and you don’t know any better.”
Since, and including, Cronkite, CBS has been a cesspool of liberal dreck. I won’t watch anything they offer; including reruns of their entertainment shows.
**spit**
Since I haven’t owned a television in years, no dog in the fight.
Television “News” is akin to a turd with sprinkles.
Replacing people involved with this is just changing the sprinkles.
The three major media outlets we grew up with have committed collective suicide. All that’s left is the slowly cooling corpses being scavenged by greedy incompetent executives.
All – as far as I’m concerned, none of the news media today is valid. Both sides lie through their capped teeth! One of the problems is that the generations today live by the 30 second soundbite, And nobody actually does any research or anything else… Sigh
They’d get great ratings off reruns of Andy Rooney’s commentaries and Morley Safer’s features.
True, Stretch!
