Dammit…another scam targeting Vets…
A flyer offering “free athletic shoes from VA” may look official at first glance. It uses VA-style branding, talks about health and wellness and even lists the MyVA phone number. That is what makes it so dangerous.
VA says the message falsely claims Veterans can receive free athletic shoes from VA. The agency says the promotion did not come from VA and has no connection to any official VA program.
The scam appears to be spreading through a flyer and online posts. It tells Veterans they may be eligible for free athletic shoes “at no cost to you.” It also shows popular shoe brands, steps to “redeem” shoes and a process that appears to involve a VA provider.
Full article, HERE from Fox News, also saw a flyer on this at the VSO office today…
The flyer lists the MyVA number, which is real, but the rest is a social engineering or ‘phishing’ scam looking for personal details.
Apparently, the flyer has some really nice shoes, none of which most of us could afford, even if we wanted to… sigh
And if you live in Illinois, bohica…
A federal appeals court upheld a controversial Illinois gun control law that largely bans assault weapons.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit decision issued on Thursday slapped down a district court decision that declared the ban unconstitutional.
“Among other things, the Act criminalizes the manufacture, sale, delivery, purchase, and possession of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines. A grandfather clause permits preexisting lawful owners of the regulated items to continue possessing them,” the Thursday decision noted.
This is another one that is going to go to SCOTUS in a big hurry!
One judge dissented, but the finding… sigh… They went back to the early 1800s, the Bowie knife, and other BS to justify upholding the ban…
This is just flat getting ridiculous! How many more losses… Never mind, I know, they will NEVER stop trying…

First, get out of Chicago but not for the gun ban nonsense.
I would say F’em,will not comply….,simple as.
I will say while not goals as one gets older the threat of death or life in prison lose a lot of their deterrent value and does give one a feeling of more freedom/peace.
The Democratic Party has turned into the Communist Party. This is what happens when you have leaders line Hakeem Jeffries, Bernie Sanders, AOC , and Chuck Schumer in your party.
Them dems surely love the idea of a populace that is unable to resist the policies and actions of a government. A clear and unmistakable example of a populace unable to resist the policies and actions of their government is Iran where the populace is unable to own firearms or any other means of defense or resistance. Recent mass murders of protesting civilians by the IRG, over 25,000 people according to news sources. Would that have happened if the people were allowed to have any means of resistance?
Mark Smith of the Four Boxes Diner has an interesting take on the 7th Circuit ruling – Frank Easterbrook is especially mendacious in twisting SCOTUS precedent to allow him to issue his pre-determined desired outcome. In one of his previous rulings, he stated that AR-15’s are not covered by the 2A since they are essentially military weapons. He doesn’t really repeat that nonsense here but makes some astounding arguments why they can be banned. One of which is that since other circuit appeals courts have determined that to be the case, he’ll the same way.
The SCOTUS hearings on Viramontes and Garner can’t happen soon enough!
My go to for legal opinions on 2nd Amendment issues is William Kirk of Washington Gun Law YouTube channel. The 7th Circuit, among others, are not to be trusted. Finally, next session, SCOTUS is taking up two “assault weapon” cases. We must wait, again, for a year.
Even with a favorable ruling from SCOTUS the lower courts will try to ignore any ruling as they have with the Bruin decision. Seems they can without any negative personal consequences.
All- Good points, and yes, agree, SCOTUS sooner rather than later!
The big question is how far people will be pushed.
On one side you have those that supposedly despise guns, but are willing to pay anyone that can pass a simple test to shoot you if you don’t give them up.
On the other side you have those with guns that outnumber any police, or military force by a substantial percentage, never break laws, want to be left alone, and will become angrier with the meddling of those that want to prevent any private citizen from having a gun.
Hopefully, the Supreme Court will understand the fire they light may be the end of what they’re supposed to protect, and they’re on the losing side if they don’t stop the attempts to circumvent the Second Amendment.
…”but are willing to pay anyone that can pass a simple test to shoot you if you don’t give them up.”
Note: back in the mid 1990’s, the US Supreme Court ruled that it was okay for police type groups to decide how low an IQ they wanted for badge toters. My observations show an obvious lowering of mental powers of the typical breed since then. I’m guessing the typical Dem controlled depts really got onboard with this. Generally, the lower the IQ, the easier it is to control the person. I’m also wondering if they get more aggressive with lower levels, or if it’s just the widespread carry of camera phones that seem to show a more violent element these days.
Jess- Excellent point!
