Two flights, one rent-a-wreck and 9 hours later, I made it to my youngest daughter’s house…
And the cat herding began…
2 kids, 2 cats, 2 dogs, and we’ll be driving back down to Sacramento today for surgery tomorrow…

Cute child, and cute animals, but standing on a chair needs to be replaced with a lightweight easily stowed aluminum step stool.
It is a pet peeve.
Note that the cat standing on the floor is looking up and if it could speak it would be saying sternly, “Stop that and get a step ladder!”
Now that I got that off my chest, how do you open the drawers and doors without handles or pulls?
Yes, like most of us of a certain age, we kept kitchen items in a niche that we carved out of the side of our caves, and getting access required moving a pile of rocks to one side.
If they are like mine, there is a finger groove along the bottom of the fascia.

My Sister in Laws house has drawers like that (it’s the style don’t ya know). In the facing there is a space routed out so that you can stick your fingers in and pull. It works after a fashion.

Our house has beveled doors and drawers for gripping. They now have door and drawer pulls that we installed. Cleaning the damned doors is a pain, compared to wiping gunk off a knob. [raises somewhat grimy hand…]
Glad you made it all right. I just got back from a five hour drive home from TN – it seems to take more out of me at this point for some reason – I used to be able to go from Dallas to El Paso or Santa Fe with only stops for gas…

I remember leaving Alameda, CA after duty on Friday and driving to Vancouver, BC. Sixteen hours (if you drove the speed limit. Statute of limitations is long passed so I’ll concede that it took me thirteen hours). I’d spend Saturday with my family and drive back Sunday. Didn’t do it often but at least three or four times over the course of the years I was stationed there.
Somewhat related to the story, a 1971 Dodge Challenger with a 440 4-barrel is a great car for that kind of drive. Barely ticking over at 80 mph.
Made a high speed run from the Moffett Field area to Reno on mostly Hy80, for the Air Races in ’84. Buddy had a Datsun 610 two door sedan with the standard 240Z injected inline six. High perf body and suspension bushings, car handled like a formula go-cart. Very impressive!
The return drive should have been a slower ride. Buddy saw headlites gaining on him, and decided to not get passed that night. Going downhill from the summit. Kept bumping the speed up until the lights went away. At some point he decided to slow down thinking he would encounter a cop eventually. The lights caught up and turned all sparkly: CHP in one of those 302 ci v8 Mustangs used for high speed pursuits. Claimed he was using every bit of that engine in the straights and shredding the tires in the corners and couldn’t keep the Datsun in sight. IIRC, he wrote him up for 79 in a 55 zone.
He traded that car for a 4×4 Datsun pickup, (looking for less ticket attraction) and then a relative offered him more than twice what the dealer was allowing him, so he yanked it and sold it to his cousin for $3k. I spent years looking for one of those 610’s, but all I could find were station wagon versions, and those were beat, high mileage cars. I’m guessing it got a bit better gas mileage than that Dodge 440!

At least she hasn’t positioned the seat back BEHIND her legs! That’s a mistake people only make once, normally…
