On the road again…

Well, so much for my time at home… sigh…

Back on the road and I get a call half way to my destination from my bank…

Not good…

Even worse, it appears there are fraudulent charges on my credit card!!! Just @$&(* lovely…

So now my card is cancelled and I’m waiting on a replacement from the bank to be FEDEX’ed to my hotel… Hmmm, I’ve got a buck forty, guess I’m eating cheep tonight…

Folks, whether you travel a lot or not, I’d STRONGLY recommend you have your credit cards and bank cards put on fraud alert/watch! This is the second time in two years this has happened to me, once overseas and once here in the States. Is it a PITA when you want to make a large purchase? Yes… Is it worth it if your card gets frauded? Hell YES!!!

I will not be charged for any of the false charges 🙂 OBTW, all of them were under $50 dollars, two of the three were Internet charges, and one was a bar in Nevada! Kinda hard to do, since I’m on the East Coast…

A couple of pics to brighten up the day/night/whateverthehelltimeitis…

Art Deco Claymore- An up close and personal look at the damage caused by a Claymore mine! Yep, you ALWAYS want to make sure “Front Faces Enemy”. Those 100 steel balls can do a “bit” of damage!!!

If you can read this- Friend of mine had a problem with 4 wheelers cutting his fences and riding on his pasture land illegally last year… What is not shown in the photo is the steel plate target lying on the ground 🙂 It apparently works, since he hasn’t had any more problems with 4 wheelers or snowmobiles…

Now back to your regular programming… Blogging will probably be light the rest of the week…

  1. If you use your CC online, you may want to double check that you don’t have a sneaky virus or trojan on your machine.

  2. The pic of the mine is amazing……………. BUT the pic of the “if you can see this you are in range”, I NEED TO HAVE. We are sitting on 300 acres and they have decimated our second housekeepers house with broken windows, stripping all the copper out of the house, kicking in doors, etc……….. They know i am a sniper, and I had to PROVE myself while hitting a coke can 300yards away, to show them i can pick them off on my porch, the stealing STOPPED……………. BUT, they will be back….. I want a bunch of those signs to post on the property!!!

Great post, happy travels………….. I am really unhappy to hear you are a victim of credit card theft……….. It is ugly I know. It is nasty……. Thank Goodness you had protection, sorry you have to eat cheap. Geeze, you need to take me to dinner if $140 is cheap!!!!!! LMAO…

  3. Wonko- I don’t for just that reason, plus I run pretty healthy firewall/virus/spam and regular updates on the security software… Thanks and I’ll go back and run another set of checks this coming weekend…

CPD- I’m sure you can get one made up… No not $140, I only have $1.40 in cash with me!

  4. I had that happen to me once. My credit union will call if *anything* appears out of the ordinary. Most times I’ll log on to the credit union site and confirm that yes, those are my charges. Well, they called one day about 4300 worth of stuff bought *in person* at an Old navy store in Ohio. I’ve never been to an Old navy store and the rep told me the charges had been declined because the person didn’t have the number from the back of the card. I had them cancel the card, and had a new one a day later.

  5. enjoy your travels .. i hope your cc catches up with you soon … and i wanna sign like that too – but there’s probably some law against it here 🙁

  6. Thieves, The lowest form of scum on earth.

I think thievery should be punishable by death. That is me though.

Great images too. A claymore is you best friend when preparing ambushes.

  7. I got an email from my credit card company saying they were closing my account because of some strange activity on my card in Romania.

I called them and said I was in Romania doing training. I asked them what were the charges for. They said it didn’t matter because the account was canceled and they would send me a new card in 5-7 business days.

I told them that didn’t work for me because I was traveling to the UAE in 48 hours.

“Sorry Mr. Ratcatcher but that’s Mastercard company policy”.

I ended up sounding like a Monty Python sketch to get the card the next day.

I found out that they had the security lapse on their end.

  8. I’d love to know where you got that picture of Claymore damage.

And old NCO once told me to be careful when setting out Claymores because “it’s so damned hard to get wounded by one of them things.”

  9. Drjim- Yeah, those “little” out of the ordinary ones can get ya…

    Julie- Probably 🙂

    ADM- Agreed!

Anon- Yep I was doing the same thing, since I’m outta here for Japan on Sunday…

Paw- that can be arranged 🙂

  10. I feel your pain. I’ve traveled for the last 25 years. We were in China for a month and my card wouldn’t work and I couldn’t call. Apparently I used it to get money from an ATM in China one to many times and they cut me off.

  11. I hope you have better luck with Fed-Ex than I did. I ordered a CD drive online and they shipped it via Fed-Ex. The package was lost and I had to call every day for three days to see if they found it. They found and delivered it five days after they said it would be at my house. Oh, and they pulled into my driveway, but placed the package on my neighbors’ front steps! And the package had tire marks on it.

  12. Drjim- thanks!

KY- Yep, been there, did that too; and it sucked!

Elm- Prescient are you? Damn replacement didn’t show up…sigh…

WSF- that would work for me 🙂

  13. Capital One irks me but they are real quick to detect unusual charges and call me. I use one card with a low limit for online purchases just to minimize potential losses.
