Another YGTBSM Moment…

A new law in Illinois now requires you to show photo ID and have your name, address and DOB recorded to buy drain cleaners, and other caustic chemicals…

“Buying a bottle of Drano won’t be the same in Illinois beginning Sunday.
A new state law requires customers purchasing products containing sodium hydroxide, or lye, and other corrosive chemicals to show a legitimate photo ID and to write their name, address and date of birth. And the store clerk will log the time and date of purchase.
Intrusive? Illinois lawmakers said Friday they agree that regulating drain cleaners and other products is needed to protect the public from those who may use them to harm.”

Entire article is HERE.

And HERE is a link to one of the sponsors with a rather interesting statement in it…

An acid attack victim who underwent 17 skin grafts, after burns disfigured 25 percent of her body “led us to this bill,” Mendoza said.

Chicago resident Esperanza Medina, who lobbied on behalf of the bill, was injured in an attack orchestrated by her lover’s wife. The woman who organized the attack was sent to prison for 44 years.

Edit- Bold/underline is mine.

Um… so her lover’s wife got even, went to jail for it, and they STILL voted this in??? I cannot find any statistics as to the actual number of occurances, but still…

Now we CAN’T require people to actually have a valid photo ID to vote, so what’s going to happen when these same people want to buy a can of Drano?

Is the ACLU going to jump in and sue the state for disfranchisement of their poor people who can’t buy their Drano???

What about just prosecuting the perps to the limit of the law, like the lady that got 44 years???

I mean really, where does this crap end???

  1. The law doesn’t have to make sense. It just has to make someone feel good, and allow a politician to point to it and say, “I did something! Reelect me!”

  2. As one person, I can’t fight every stupid law that comes along. I can and do spend my consumer dollars
    where I please.

Where I don’t go is Chicago. Some things there I would like to see but I can live without it.

California is another place on my do not visit list. When I need to drive through either place, I hit the border with a full tank and try to drive through without stopping.

  3. @Pissed – I am with you. Around here I have to show my ID to buy Sudafed. No one is balking at that, but show an ID to vote and everyone files a lawsuit.

  4. I think the other comments say it well about the disconnect of ID to vote vs. buying household goods. Just want to add in my voice of “MAKE IT STOP!”

  5. ‘Scuse me while I go outside and cut one of my downed tree limbs into a nice club-sized stick. Maybe I’ll hit someone with it. I generally leave the wallet with id inside while I’m doing yard work so I won’t be able to show it while I procure said stick.

    Bunch of idiots.

  6. “Where does this Crap end?”

Sadly, only if the Good Guys win the Next American Revolution. THEY won’t stop, it’s part of THEIR Reason to Exist, and Voting doesn’t seem to be working.

That Fork in the Road is up ahead, and the Bad Guys are gaining on you, so it’s time to turn to Freedom, or turn to Tyranny. But there’s no Exit Back.

  7. What Les said.
They have the bit in their teeth now and will NOT stop. If the horse runs, either bail off or shoot him.

  8. So the crooks will switch to throwing bleach. Or gasoline (followed by a lit match). You can’t regulate crime out of existence by limiting access to the tools criminals use. They’ll just find new tools. Seems obvious to me, but the obvious is something that seems to elude the members of the political class.

  9. where does this crap end???

In the pants of the guy who can’t unclog his drain.

  10. All- Thanks for the responses, looks like y’all are as fed up as I am… On the road again, so not much time for the blog. sorry…

  11. I together with my guys were found to be going through the nice ideas from your web blog and so suddenly I had an awful feeling I never expressed respect to you for those secrets. The young boys were for this reason warmed to read all of them and already have truly been taking advantage of these things. Appreciation for really being considerably accommodating as well as for making a choice on certain good useful guides most people are really eager to know about. Our sincere apologies for not expressing appreciation to you sooner.
