Enough to make one wonder…

From various sources around the web this weekend, since I’m NOT about to go to any mall anywhere…

Sheriff denied for rifle purchase!

When Siskiyou County, CA Sheriff John Lopey tried to buy an M1 Garand rifle through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), he was denied and told he failed to pass the background check conducted via the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Lopey is a sheriff: he carries a gun and enforces the law for a living. Prior to being a sheriff, he spent 33 years with the California Highway Patrol and is a retired Army Colonel. He had Top Secret clearance in the Army.

Go HERE to hear the online interview with the sheriff…

Is this a simple case of mistaken identity?  Or using the NICS system against those who stand up for our rights?

And speaking of mis-use of a system…

NY State Police are refusing to release statistical information about the number of new pistol permits in New York or how many assault weapons have been registered under a controversial gun-control law adopted in January. (The SAFE Act)

Full article HERE.

One wonders if this is because the law is so hosed up there is little/no compliance??? And background checks on AMMO buyers?  Apparently that one won’t hit until sometime in Jan.

In overseas news, once again a person defending life and property was arrested for shooting an ARMED intruder…

A jeweler has been arrested in France after shooting dead an armed robber who was threatening his wife.

The 36-year-old thief, a known serial criminal, was shot four times in the body after entering a store in Sezanne, in the Marne department north east of Paris.

He threatened the wife of the 54-year-old jeweler, who then came downstairs from his flat above the shop armed with a 9mm pistol.

A link HERE to the infamous 40% speech about NICS loopholes…

Just think about it, if that were true, then in addition to the estimated 19,000,000 guns sold via NICS, then an ADDITIONAL 7,000,000 guns were sold without checks…

Does anybody ‘really’ believe that crap???

Some WalMart facts…

1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world’s largest private employer, and most speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they accomplished  this in only fifteen years.

8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.

11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth’s population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.

13. When they advertise for those ‘low paying jobs’ they have literally thousands of applicants.

14. Many WalMart management have come from the floor worker position (something about promoting from within)

And a little primer about government ‘successes’…

a.. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 237 years to get it right and it is broke.

b.. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 77 years to get it
right and it is broke.

c.. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 74 years to get it right
and it is broke.

d.. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 48 years to get it right;
$1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to “the
poor” and they only want more.

e.. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 47 years to get it right and they are broke.

f.. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 42 years to get it right
and it is broke.

g.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 35 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.

You have FAILED in every “government service” you have shoved down our
throats while overspending our tax dollars.

AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

YGTBSM!!!

h/t Ev for the last bits…

  1. I’ve long understood the “they put all the local mom-and-pops out of business” cries that are raised every time a new Wal-Mart opens. But that’s the nature of free capitalism, and the objection is – frankly – the “waaah, it ain’t fair” cry of the modern nanny-staters.

Everything changes; get used to it. 🙂

  2. Could the sheriff have been a victim of identity theft? Could someone else have made purchases under his name? How does one appeal this?

  3. And there is the case of the Maryland AF Sgt who shot and killed a man who broke down the door and was going after his wife at a party. He is being charged with second degree murder because he didn’t dial 911 first and wait on the cops. Of course the DA is a big anti-gun nut.

  4. Rev/WSF- Agreed!

Opus- Nobody seems to know, as reasons are NEVER given. And yes, it can be appealed, which the sheriff is doing. Success? Who knows…

CP- Yep, that reminds me, I need to check with some folks and see where that case is…

Opus- Thanks, that was the link I was looking for! 🙂

  5. One small comment. Today, the US is a net EXPORTER of oil. We export more oil than we import. We only purchase middle east or non US domestic oil when it’s price is lower than local crude, which is rarely. This is a change that occurred in spite of the administrations vehement efforts to curtail US domestic production.

  6. You forgot the War on Drugs. How many billions, if not trillions have been spent, with how much effect?
