Well damn…

6.2 liter, 450hp, 6 speed…

IMG_1638Β And the sumbitch didn’t even leave the keys so we could keep his rotors cleaned off…

Sigh…

  1. Ugly little sucker, that will fold & flatten your cowboy hat should you happen on a big Brangus bull standing in the middle of a foggy road… BTDT no thanks.

  2. Oh HELL yes!

That engine is probably all full of carbon. Let’s wind her up and blow the smoke out of her!

  3. Ah, the Holden Ute. A standard Aussie factory hot rod. They have a 4-door version, a “Crewie Ute” that I lust after. No idea if you could fit an adult in the back seat. This one is a “Ute with a tub”. You can also get a “Ute with a Tray” which is a little flatbed. The recent GTO was based on the Holden Manaro (spelling?) which is the passenger car version of the Ute. Since GM will not be manufacturing in Australia any more, I’m hoping that they will make the Ute available on this side of the pond.

There’s a joke Christmas carol to the tune of Dashing through the Snow… only this one refers to a ‘rusty Holden Ute” and other Aussie things.

  4. Do they not have pot holes in Aussie land? With that amount of rubber on the wheels, I could not get to town with out destroying a wheel if not the suspention. It is pretty.

  5. Top Gear (the real one, not the American imitation) did a comparison test on that ‘ute and another car.

And very sad to say that in the next few years, NO automobile manufacturing will take place Down Under.

Truly the end of an era……

  6. PH/Keads/Rev- Yep! πŸ™‚

WSF/Mad Jack- I’ll take the ‘hit’ to go do that… πŸ˜‰

    Dammit- Point… πŸ˜€

Larry- Yep, I’ve seen a couple of those too! And the SS with a tray just looks WRONG… πŸ˜‰

Ed- Per the folks at the Det, this pilot is ‘not’ a country boy… He’s an urban type…

drjim- Holden is pretty busy building cars down here… I wouldn’t believe that report…

  7. Hey Old NFO;

I am sure you can find a way to sneak that pretty over the lake back to the world?
    Just an idea…..?

  8. BP- Probably… sigh

Bob- I wish! πŸ™‚ Although the steering wheel IS on the wrong side…

  9. NFO, I was there around Christmas when GM was running an ad campaign with the theme, “we’re still here even tho’ we won’t be here”. Ford had already announced that they would also pull out. I’m just hoping that they’ll bring the dies over here and we can just switch the dash and steering wheel.

  10. … and the pedals, and the mirrors, and the handbrake lever, and (if auto) the gear shift quadrant and lockout button, and the headlights, and add those stupid marker lights, and …

  11. Tam- OH yeah… GM brought one up for the Hot Rod Power Tour in 99 and it was the hit of the show… EVERYBODY wanted one!

Larry- Interesting, thanks. I’ll do some digging.

Sendarius- Yep, but we ‘know’ they can do it, because they did it for the GTO…

  12. Car and Driver, Road & Track, and Motor Trend have all reported that GM, Ford, and Toyota are closing down all their manufacturing in Australia.

It’s a small market, and they all claim they can no longer justify building vehicles there.

  13. I really don’t get this class of vehicle.

You don’t have the payload or rough-ground ability of a ute, and you don’t have the passenger capacity of an actual car.

It seems like a bayonet on a pistol to me.
