WWII Posters…

The people at home did their parts for the war too…

WorldWar2

Norman Rockwell needs no introduction, and he did a number of posters supporting various entities during the war.  The one above is one of the ‘Four Freedoms’ paintings he did for the Saturday Evening Post in 1943, it’s called Freedom of Speech.  The others are below-

  1. He also did more with those last three to corrupt Americans’ understanding of our rights….

  2. Differ- Gotta remember these were done in 1943, and pointed to a war-time environment, NOT the revisionist history that morphed around them later…

Talk to folks that remember those times and their take is completely different…

  3. The Four Freedoms were an FDR progressive platform for increasing the power of the state.
    Freedom from Want in particular.
It was like an addition to the Bill of Rights.
I believe Obama (spit) was proposing this again recently.
    Nice paintings.

  4. Ed- While I hear what you’re saying, the folks I talked to remembered it more as there would be no censorship of the media for anything other than War Security, freedom from the Nazis or Japanese bringing the war to the US, that food rationing would NOT be increased and people would not starve (lots of folks remembered the 1930s and breadlines), and freedom to worship (Many remembered Kristallnacht). While Roosevelt’s words may have said for the ‘world’, that was NOT what many Americans thought or believed…

  5. Something to make us all think. I know my relatives, all gone now, weren’t fans of Roosevelt, or they way to war was conducted.

  6. Beautiful old Rockwell posters, from another time. Thank You! Amerca has since gotten portly in stature, and poor in reason…

  7. Over the years, between 1963-to April 2014 all but one has been almost taken away from us.
Freedom from Fear is one of the most destroyed ideals of this country.
Freedom of Religion, well you can tell over the last 20 years where that is going and who is being poked by the pointy end of the elite atheist trident.
Freedom of speech is almost totally squashed in this country by the pc elite police.
Almost all of the grand pictures that Mr. Rockwell painted are being through the mud and muck of neoleft to be erased by them from the memories and history of America.
I pray for the meteors every day to come and then let GOD sort it out afterward when he gets around to it.

  8. Just started “The Unknown Rockwell, A Portrait of Two American Families”, by J.A. Edgerton and Nan O’Brien, a book loaned to me by a friend. “Buddy” Edgerton was born in 1930 on a farm in Vermont. In 1943, Rockwell and family moved into the farmhouse next door.
If you didn’t have indoor plumbing or anything more than an ice box until the ’40s or ’50s, there are a lot of memories there.
